performance upgrade

I have a 06 gt s/c. I plan on putting on a 3.4 pulley msd coiles and wires, 104* plugs, FWI, 180* therm. How much do you think all this will coast me and where will that put me in 1/4 mile time? help and suggestions welcome

hmm, i would hold off on any pulley's until you read up on what you need in order to run one. That sir, is no where near enough to run anything but a stock pulley. If you put that 3.4 on including all your mods you've listed i'll put you at about .2 seconds slower than stock because of all the timing the car will pull out to keep itself from blowing up.
 
save your cash on the coils and wires for now....colder plugs are probably $10, and a thermostat will probably be $6.
And like he said, wait for the pulley before you know what the car can take.
 
carl i have asked these questions before...get a front powerlog, downpipe, cold air intake, PCM (probably void warrenty), may look into the tranny for shift kit....Maybe that will take care of it to be a 3.4...anyways with those mods i'd drop it from what i've learned...here is sites to each of the mods i've listed...

I just ordered a bunch of stuff last week but before I did I messaged ZZP about the MSD Coils and this is what Turbo Tim replied.

"Do NOT run MSD anything, coils, wires etc. OEM is better. Our 8.9 second drag car uses stock OEM coils and our spark plug wires.

I went with PRJ Performance 10.4mm wires which used MSD boots. They never explained why to not go with MSD coils other than "OEM is better."

Still just thought I'd share some info I have.

That's why they do it....that's business.

I run the MSD coils, wires, and the ignition. To each his own. Most people put wires on for ascetics anyway. Some probably do increase performance to a certain point. But you're not gonna drop serious times just by wires alone.

I could go back into why I did my system like I did, but we've been there before. :th_winking:

I'd suggest doing the supporting mods to what you want to do down the line. It'll be easier on your engine in the long run. A power log is a good investment and so is a good intake. Even doing a PCM before you drop pulley sizes will net you better gains eventuallly.
 
i noticed better throttle response out of the 10.4's, plus they look good. but better overall performance, i dont really think so.

i didnt upgrade a damn thing in my electrical system. i actually downgraded. i had some 8mm taylor wires and went back to stop. im still chasing down a misfire at idle and ive replaced everything short of the ICM.

Have any of you people seen facts showing that the stock coils are just as good or do you just keep listening to people saying they have the stock coils on this and it run 8's? I don't know, I do what i think is the best choice for me, i'm sick of hearing people compare one car to another because every single car is different from the other. I figured my car would run low 13's at best when i based my times off of other people with comparable mods or more mods, i'm at 12.8 so far with full interior, and crappy shift points. I still have the stock catback which everyone told me "there's no way you'll run 12's with that, it's to restrictive" "Those mods will get you into the mid 13's at best and that would be with a drag radial" i've heard it all, and they were all wrong. My worst run i have ever laid down in my car was on street tires with no traction and it still hit a 13.7@105, still hasn't run a 14 yet with simple mods.

IIRC the MSD coil packs are meant for a GT, which is why it would be a downgrade from our stock coil packs.

I probably should have explained better. They said don't run anything "MSD" and it is explained why on their site. I did upgrade my wires because I had to change the spark plugs, so I figured I'd get some nice looking ones. To be honest I do notice a difference and a gain, but this could also be because previously my car wasn't running as great due to a slight misfire. So the performance gap is a little wider, or none at all, just feels like it's running better from the misfire.

Also the wires were the second mod I did to my car after the intake. So I guess I could be the best example of aftermarket wires over OEM.
 


I got PRJ wires for aesthetics and durability over stock wires, which are good until you have to change them. :th_shakinghead1:
 
so what do you think i should do? i want a faster car but not something i have to drop a bunch of money into to do
