The traction control is there for a reason. I wouldnt drive with it off but thats me, now if you gonna run someone or at the track then yes turn it off. The only way the traction control will cause you to lose power is if there is wheel spin.
As for the performance shift, your foot will result in poor gas milage as the perf. shift changes the firmness of the shifts.

and raises shift points slightly. it also stays in gear longer at part throttle and downshifts faster. i leave mine in perf shift all the time. i've got a fairly heavy foot and still get 21mpg combined.

Dumb Question, How For sure do you know you have the perfect shift option, i don't see the switch people talk about. my car is the 2002 grand prix GTP 40th anniversary. I see there should be a light in the instrument panel that lights up, mine doesn't light up? any answers would be appreciated. Sorry for jacking the thread! just a side step lol

^the button is on the side of the shifter! u can't miss it.
and when u here it click in. (on) there should be a blue light in your instrument panel. (left side) it sounds like your bulb is burnt out tho! you'll know when u have it on. the tranny will shift harder!

Yep, I get to have the fun of replaceing mine... mine went out last week.
I believe the Preformance Shift button was not on cars after 2000 but the light was still in the dash for some reason.

i THINK there is a write up in here somewhere on how to turn the perf.shift on on cars without the button.

I know with some aftermarket pcms, they program the pcm to run performance shift all the time. ZZPhas this to say about their pcm's( altho I wouldnt recomend them but others have the same setup). On 97-00 GTP's, performance shift mode must be selected to enable shift points and line pressure modifications. On all other PCMs, we program in the performance tables to run all the time unless otherwise requested.

Performance shift was not on the 2001+ GTP I believe. The only way to get it is to have an aftermaket PCM like DHP or ZZP. You don't necessarily need a shift knob with the switch.

1) I dont think my car is in any way in need of traction control. Its nice in the snow I guess on my other car. i never have it on. I dont like what it makes the car do in the event that it it does lose traction.
In my other car tcs or asr or whatever it is called has almost cased me to get hit on more then one occation. I try to pull out of a parking lot or something when it is a little wet or something, I get a little spin the car applies brakes and rejects throttle making it so I can not get up to speed of traffic. If disabeling it didnt cost money I would no longer have it.
I could see it being useful on a really high performance track car with a much more sophisticated tcs system for getting through turns with out spinning. But imo has no place in my street car. Id rather have it spin and have the car do something that I can correct then just stop or react differently then it should to my imput.
2) No shouldnt decrease fuel mileage. Should make the trany last longer by lowering how much it slips on shifts. As has been said fuel mileage is way more effected by your right foot.
