Im looking to add some cheaper performance mods for my grand prix gt 1999, I have a CAI and custom sway bars. Any suggestions? Just curious of some of your input :D
 


Go to the search button and type in safely modding your 3800 thread and you will see. The thread should be by bluegtp. To start off with er rockers and hv3 with plog and downpipe or headers.
 
Thanks for the suggestion. I've done my research, i've spent hours tossing ideas around in my head, and researching the pros and cons of each idea. I just wanted to see if anyone had some good ideas that I hadn't thought of. I don't need any snappy answers guys.. I'm just new to the idea of putting time money and work into my car, I've been researching my ass off for the past few months. I wanted to talk to some people that know more then me, which will hopefully help me learn in the long run. No disrespect, I appreciate any input thrown at me.
 
There isn't much to research.
HV3 + Rockers or a top swap. Depends how much power you want and how much you want to tear into the engine.

What are your goals with the car? How much is your budget?
 
The Safely Modding your 3800 thread describes in detail the proper way to mod your car... I'm not sure what more you're looking for.
 
I just enjoy working on my car, so my goals are just to make my car as fast as possible, might be drag raced in the far future at a local track.. But for now all I want is a few more horses, into the high 200's. I plan on supercharging my car with a GTP supercharger, and I'm aware that I will have to replace numerous parts to achieve this goal. and shortly after I get the supercharger in I want to intercool it. I was planning on buying a HV3, rockers, and a cam shaft for a higher lift. That will come right after I get headers, delete U bend, get some nice mufflers, toss on some chrome tips, and buy a freeflow cat. In the end, I just want a well crafted tuner car to call my own. Its been a dream of mine for a while. My budget is flexible, Im just going by paychecks setting some money aside for the car. I'm not stingy, but I'm not stupid either. I've made custom CAI, and I am in the process of making custom hood scoops. I save money where I can, as long as I don't sacrifice quality. I want to tune my own PCM, and plan on buying the kit. Its a good skill to know, and I may be able to profit off of that skill in the future. The thread you recommended was really helpful, and is bookmarked. I will refer to it in the future without a doubt. Thanks guys. :D

If I was you I would just wait and do everything at once...Unless you have loads of time on your hands, I would do things a little differently...You want to cam AFTER topswapping? you're going to be pretty far into the motor when you have everything apart so you might as well cam it right then. You also might as well do the headers when you have the manifolds already off when you are topswapping, but again if you have lots and lots of time on your hands to keep working on your car then it doesn't matter, its only a few hours of work but why not do it when its apart...Also, headers will delete the U-Bend so don't bother buying the U-Bend delete....Mufflers and tips should be the LAST thing you do, put the money where it counts first.....Don't think i'm saying go out tomorrow and buy $1800 worth of stuff for your build all at once (most of us can't do that) I'm just saying piece it together little by little then once you get everything, do all the labor one weekend instead of tearing into the engine multiple times to go to places that were already apart.
 
Since you are looking for go fast mods right out of the gate, then go ahead and top swap, turbo or get an L67/L32. No need to spend money on N/A mods when you will be wanting more power later on. Or better yet, get a GTP and start there.

i agree with this 100%. set your goal and accumulate the part. you would waste alot of money and time removing and replacing parts. horsepower is like crack, you would want more and more and more! watch my build http://www.grandprixforums.net/four-sixers-red-ripper-46477.html
 
How much do you think were talking for a L67? I want one really bad, but something tells me that'd be in the far future. I can't sell my car, I just got it. Unless you think it'd be possible to sell my car and turn around and buy a GTP with that money, its out of the question.

granted...I would never install an engine that I hadn't gone through and replaced everything in anywho.
 
I recommend just swapping an L67...otherwise when you tear into the parts youll want to port the supercharger and heads, which means valve job. head work isnt cheap. Then after or before its installed just replace all the gaskets in it.
 
Well do you want to drop in a used motor with heads in unknown shape or have some reman'd heads thrown on?
