hey guys looking for some idea's here??.... My black trim vinyl was peeling off under the windows so i decided to try and peel it to get polished metal look i saw underneath it IDK what i was thinking:th_liar:...i made more of a mess and i think it looks like sh**t. Any trim restore kits out there?? I was thinking of using goo-gone or whatever its called and just try get the rest of it off or something. Ill have to post some pics to get a better idea..I cant stand it should of just left it alone!!

the driver's door is the only decent looking one... my best bet prolly is to finish peeling it off..Any kind of adhesive remover ??

mine were cracked and causing people to get cut bleed and b1tch at me about it. so i took them all off pealed, scrapped, cut, and sanded all the plastic off. i left the rubber part on that hit the outside of the window, i just cut a straight line with a new razor knife blade.

then painted them black 3 coats, and then 3 or 4 coats of clear, wet sanded them and buffed them out. this areover a year go done, still look this good. not as good as factory, but better then cracked crap cutting people.

that white stuff is wax.

Alrighty and particular paint?? ..Just let me get this straight so i pull off the rest of the trim then sand the metal then paint it..Bare with me already screwed it up when i started to take the trim off just want to make it look good again

pretty sure i used good old rustolium gloss black, then a exterior clear coat.

much easier to work on off the car, one screw and they come off.)open the door, see screw) the fronts you need to loosen up the side view mirror. the back just need the screw removed.

where the plastic is on there tight still, this is the hardest part to get off, thats when i started to sand the plastic off vs trying to cut it off.

prep was a lot of work. but cheaper then buying newer trim and then it cracking again later.

Sweet ill take a look when i can so it should be in the same spots on a GP :th_scratchhead:... Haven't really looked into it do they shops that specialize in trim and what not?? Just the matter of having time to do the work.

you can drive it with no trim, but the gap at the bottom of the window makes it look easy to maybe open the lock.

i took mine off started in the morning, cleaned, prepped, then painted the first coat of paint light, like a tack coat, then a few more light coats. then the clear, let them sit over night to dry good, then wet sand, as the clear is never smooth looking, them compound them.

This annoys the **** out of me. This is happening on all 4 of my doors. I found minty strips for both rear doors at the j/y not too long ago, but haven't been able to find fronts. Those are the worst part of the 4 on mine, chipped at the top, and now peeling/rusting on the side.

It sucks looking in the mirror and seeing shiny, black trim on the rear doors...and super faded/flat/chipped ones up front

I hear you man its driving me nutts!!

my driver side was done with in the first week of owning the car, the d/s was way worse and i was getting cut up. so i 1/2 assed redid the one side, then the pass side got bad, a few more cuts and complaints, so i took them all off and re did them all so they would all match.

if you found good rear trim, find newer front, cause they will never match the factory trim finish. they look ok if your redo them all.

you need a very new and sharp razor to cut along the rubber window squeegee part, you want to leave that part. utility knife worked best. and cut it as straight as possible. you can score this part while its still on the car, its easier for sure. i had a few areas where i lost my line. pita to get it to look straight if you go off the line.

i used a 1x2 block of wood for a sanding block, to clean the sharp edges up as well. you can see i have some square edges on mine.

just take your time painting them and it should all work out fine. i also used some duplicolor prep spray before painting them.

little update got the front off wasn't able to get the back door trim off not sure if there's a hidden 2nd screw or what...just did an alternate for now went to auto store and go some trim tape.. came out great for the time being !! will do for a little bit anyways..if u have any ideas with getting the back door trim off let me know

I just replaced my drivers door trim and it was $60. Every door is $60 except the back passengers door and that is $95 for some reason. The only reason I bought new was because the owner of my company backed up his truck and took out my passanger side mirror and I had the shop quote him for the new mirror, painting the mirror, and installing the new mirror and then he gave me a check for that amount and I ended up cutting that cost by installing the mirror by myself and using the left over cash to buy the new trim! :th_jester:

hes got to be talking new, from dealer, not cheap at all. unless you want a show car, then by all means drop 300 on door trim, he said it was free due to his boss hitting his car, so thats just a win win in my book.
