PCM n tuning ?

So I have decided to go with the 3800 performances PCM, is it safe to say I won't need a tune with these light mods on my 02 gtp ? 3.5 pulley, cold air box, cat less downpipe, 180 stat, cold plugs 104's, thrasher transfer kit? Plug n play ? Thanks r your time, John.

John.

If you're buying a PCM from a vendor then "technically" that's a tune. Even though its a mail order...it'll do the job you need. Now are you talking about a shift kit...then, yeah it works.

Thanks for your reply,As you can tell I have been out of the performance mode since 1987 when I ordered my Grand national and plugged in a Hypertech stage 3 chip, and raising a family.Man things have changed .Thanks for putting up with the green horn.Love your ride,I work at GM Lordstown where I beleive your car was made. This Knock retard scares me alittle, will I be ok with what I mentioned about adding to my car ? or should I have someone hook up a scanner/tunner thing after my mods ? Thank you. John.

Do You have any experience with the Thrasher shift kit ? I understand there are different shift set ups in the same kit.I dont want it to chirp everytime it shifts and Im not drag racing every weekend, just want better shifting with an ocasional street run. Thanks for your time. John.

I recommend a couple things for ya then John...

First off, at the bottom of my signature...click that link and read up, there is TONS of basic info there for you to get a grasp on the platform you'll be working with and what mods work to keep it a safe daily driver but still get some better MPG's/pep out of it.

If it were me, I'd do it like this...

Buy a PCM from www.3800performance.com...it's a DHP...best mail order PCM ever made for this platform.

I'd just leave the pulley stock, or get a 3.6" Modular Pulley System...but you'll need the actual pulley puller tool...you can't just rent a standard pulley puller from your local auto parts store because it could damage the snout shaft in the supercharger. Then I'd pick up a PLOG and a 3" catless downpipe from ZZPerformance as well while you're there...that'd take care of the exhaust system as the catback isn't restrictive...if you want to change the noise of the car, swap out the mufflers.

As for the shift kit, buy one from wither TripleEdgePerformance or IntenseRacing...the Intense one is the stronger, slap bang one...so if you're just wanting to firm up the shifts then I'd suggest the TransGo and when you install the PCM, they have upper line pressure and lowered shift tables in the tune you buy...so that'll pull everything together for you.

Thanks, What's a PLOG ?
