PCM E85 cranking fueling questions

Around here e85 is so damn cheap. 2.29$ a gallon. Premium is closer to 3.45$. Now that I figured out what table to fix it im just going to run e85 all winter. Mine runs absolutely perfect on it. Plus it makes giant clouds of exhaust in the cold with e85 so I can go james bond on people behind me.

My untuned e85 swapped gtp starts on the 2nd kerchunk every time... i have yet to find any e85 3800 have trouble starting in the cold and we have ran these in 20 below.

The answer is complicated... The short answer is "probably a little bit" but the main tables you are going to see used in cranking is typically your voltage offset table (which honestly doesnt seem to work as you would expect it to in a 3800 pcm) and your cold start cranking tables (more found in Tinytuner). Typically fiddling with the cold start cranking / warmup table (i cant remember the name) is your best bet to fight around the starting rough, but from my experience you should just be happy it starts.

e85 isnt even supposed to be able to start in the cold... That being said I have never had much of a starting issue in the cold on most of the cars I have on e85... my fiero hates to start but there are reasons for that.

Ha.

All 3 of those are very specific and independent. what are you implying here that i was contradictory on what i said?

I made a post suggesting how people could fix their starting issues. And i said i havent had starting issues on anything. What is the big f ucking problem with everyone ganging up on me?

Yes. You are contradicting yourself. Also, last I heard, you should never change from a 100% stock, factory tune, no matter what. Because GM knows best.

I just find it funny how you beat up all the newbs asking tune related questions.

My opinion hasnt changed but i can still suggest help to people that dont follow that philosophy too. Fuc k me for trying to help a guy make his car he broke work better through a way he can understand. I cant control or understand his mechanical situation and he asked if it can be tuned to work better. I offered a tuning solution after already suggesting he look for a mechanical one.

Mine started fairly dang good with bone stock cold start tables when I had my l36 high compression setup. Using basically the same tune and without a doubt the same injector settings / injectors im having cold start issues on my l67 setup (30+ seconds of cranking but then running perfect after it starts). The only changes other then a l67 block are that I have a full stack now and 104 plugs instead of 103. I learned how to do this from the LS tuning guys. This is how they improve cold starts. I saw at least 6 different well respected guys on the hptuners forums approving of this method. Also from a scientific standpoint E85 has a very different rate of evaporation then gasoline at low temperatures and even gm uses similar cold start adjustments on the flex fuel cars so the science backs up when they are changing in the tune.

Non of this matters though because my car just did this beautiful cold start about half an hour ago... :)

Well yea higher compression likes e85 better. Glad u found a solution and hope it's repeatable for other members

Next car to get the treatment will most likely be a deckers. His has an even harder time with the cam.

The thing that helped me most with E85 cold starts is 1. adding fuel . . duh and 2. increasing cranking spark table's in Tiny Tuner. fires up instantly now
. . my .02

17° this morning and my car started after 5 seconds of cranking. I would add cranking fuel, but 91 is cheaper to run here and I can't really use e85 for anything in the winter.

My 04 with the l26 and xpz used to have problems starting when the engine was warm. I adjusted the crank fueling on it, and it was lots better. Then after switching it to e85, it didn't want to start cold, so again adjusting crank fueling helped out a lot.

Its really disappointing that hpt does not support this table. I would be happy with just the base table alone. Its not like it is hidden deep in the pcm and no one has ever found it before. All they would have to do is take a peak at the tiny tuner database and then punch that address in (in a sense).
