Gots a 98 GS...

So Im inches away from ordering a overkill PCM just need to get this figured out. Do all cars need this Case learn or is it just some. If so whats the process or do I have to have somone with some kind of tuning software to do it I dont wanna be stuck with a new PCM and nothin to do with it? Im guessing this isnt already worked out in the Overkill PCM ill be getting. :th_scratchhead:

No, its not something already done in the PCM.

BTW, overkill PCM's rock...in terms of a pretuned PCM.

Basically, you get your new PCM in, follow the instructions as per removing the old PCM/Installing the new PCM.
Then you'll drive around for a bit, and take the car to a dealership..and tell them you need a CASE learn performed. (it basically helps the computer figure out the tolerances from the Crankshaft position sensor)

Just tell them DO NOT FLASH THE PCM, otherwise, you'll have another stock PCM.

?????
Profit

So the case learn has to be done no matter what?

got an aeroforce or a buddy with one?

a case learn can be done in like 2 min with one of those.

No Im pretty much the only one of my buddies left around here so Im on my own on that one. Happens when you have a kid :th_shakinghead1: . I can get it done for a beer just have to drive 1 1/2 hours for it. Still cheaper than a stealership ya know.

So its a hit or miss if Im going to need the CASE learn right? Somtimes ya do somtimes ya dont???????????? Im hopin I atleast have a chance

Sometimes you dont have to have a CASE learn

But wouldnt it be lovely if say, the PCM thought the crank wasn't within play tolerances, and shut the car down while on the highway (Happened to me)

Or even better, the computer think the crank is well within tolerance, and it not be, then BLAM!

Anyways, It's a good idea to get it done, cause its cheaper to have to get it towed.

Not sure why its $115...I took mine to the local stealership, and it cost me $30...

Anyways, if you dont Pop a SES light, then be on your merry way, but if you do, grab a beer, and settle in for a little drive, and have your buddy do it.

Damn $30 bucks. All you asked for was a "PCM CASE learn"? I had to explain to this dude what it was and I halfway dont. Any GM dealership will work right?

Yeah, any GM dealer can do it, someone with an Aeroforce Interceptor, or a ScangaugeII...

And yeah, I told them I needed a CASE learn, and to not flash the PCM, since it was tuned, and $30 later, I was a happy camper.

Looks like I found another localish tuner. Man NON said $30 all said $100+++

Damn...

Guess southern hospitality doesnt extend that far north huh??

Track someone down with an aeroforce that knows how...and have a 2 man car show!

Or, just get the PCM, and see if it does pop a SES light...and then just try to find someone as soon as you can...if not, then you're good.

I actually found sumone with a HPT and does custom tunes over on RegalGS.org hes just in Milwalkee so its a little under a 2 hour drive. Ill have everything under control then. I had a offer for my choice of many many ZZP BIN files to chose from and just flashed on for super cheap BUT this forum has made me scared of ZZP

Yeah...they've caused a few cars to go BOOM!.

BUTTTT..if he's tuning and loading BIN files, that means he can monitor your car...

meaning, he could load a profile, then go and drive around for a bit, do some WOT pulls, and see how that tune is sitting with your car.

Basically, ghetto street tuning!
I'd say that'd be the way to go.

The dude with the ZZP bins was just going to flash them no scanning or tuning. Thats why me and Wisconsin will meet this weekend

Too bad you are not a little closer to MN. I live on the Wisconsin/Minnesota boarder and I would give you a case learn for free.

I think you should make a thread/Rename this one to something like "Need a case learn I am from ---------". There has got to be someone close with a PT or Aeroforce that would just do it for free. It literally takes MAX 5 minutes.

Even $20 bucks for the persons time. Fastkatt said he would hook it up but hes over and hour and half away. If I need it Im gonna take him up on it and hook him up with a beer or 2. The guys cool as sh*t anyway so.

I had no light after installing my Overkill but had the CASE learn done anyway. I have a friend that works at a GM dealership. Did it for nothing and took about a minute to do.

I have had a slight starting issue from time to time with the engine continuing to crank without immediately firing up. So far it has started up instantly everytime after the CASE learn. I'll give it a few more days to see how it goes.
