Passenger Side front and back floorboards soaked... need help

I am a chick so I know nothing about cars.....

Did not notice if the floorboards were soaked earlier today when we left, but when we got to my inlaws we were there for about 3 1/2 hours before we left to go to the store....

Went to grab my purse out of the car and it was soaked, along with everything in it and the passenger side floorboard.... Didnt notice until about 11:30pm that the backseat floorboard on the passenger side was soaked as well...

Any ideas on what this is? it is the first time it has happened and I have had the car almost a month now.

Thank you
Jessica

was it raining? it could be the front cowl leaking by the outside bottom windshield.

is your car running hot, or stink like antifreeze?

is the wet floor slick feeling if you cant smell anything? it could be the heater core.

its the seal at the bottom of the windshield. the factory glue wears out and the seal falls off at that spot letting water go into car and run into the floorboard

It rained on Friday night...into Saturday early early morning...

Car isnt running hot, no antifreeze smell....

Not slick, just soaked enough to watch water drip off the floor mat from the front seat

.....the seal.... it goes out really quick to where youll never notice it slightly. it just happens all at once.

Thank you, my husband is going to look at it in the morning... suppose I should see what the fix for it is and how much its going to cost...

grrr at cars

The man is going to take it apart and see what he finds tomorrow, and we will go from there... If we can fix it ourselves then so be it, if it has to go in thats cool too... I just want my car not all wet on the passenger side....

I see that a lot of this is just the front floorboard... has anyone had the backseat passenger floorboard get soaked because of this?

i guess if you were parked on a hill with the front higher than the rear it could get back there too.

its easy to fix, just unbolt the wiper arm on the pass side and pull the clips out of the plastic, its either the rubber weather stripping or the rubber liner that redirects the water from coming in the heater fan, its all clear once you open it up.

and on another note, if you lift the carpet there is a rubber plug that blocks off a drain hole in the front and rear floor, pop them out and try to prop up the carpet so it drys out or it will stink bad, and there is a ton of foam under it, try to squeeze out as much water as possible.

a couple of boxes of baking soda will help out too, just sprinkle it all over and rub it in, top of the carpet and the under side, then shop vac it out,(best if the baking soda is applied repeatedly) try not to use the home vacuum because the baking soda really kills vacuums, it sticks to everything and clogs up the vacuum.

car wash vacuums work well too.

good luck, wet interiors suck, i know because my whole car was in a flood, i had to remove everything from the seats to the carpet, no stink today and that was 6 months ago.

My front nd back passenger side floor is soaked and it hadn't been raining.... I heard or read that it could be something called a heater core, then I read it could be a simple fix. It doesn't have a smell or odor (yet)

check your coolant level, if its low it could be the core, or it could just be wet still from the last time it rained. and wet rug will start to stink like a wet old dog. look into it fast.

Ok thank you.... just so that I understand completely, if my coolant level is low, there is a good chance it could be the "core"....is that expensive to fix or replace? The floor is extremely wet, you can see the wetness without touching the floor. More so in the front, but back is wet too. Thanks again!!

yes, if low could be the core, i would take the front seat out, pass side, lift the carpet and see what the fluid is. go from there.

and i would leave the rug propped up with sticks or what ever and point a box fan at the wet rug bottom to dry it, (maybe pull the back seat bottom to get more rug up, to dry it) baking soda will also kill off any odors, dont vac it up with a regular vac, use a shop vac if possible. baking soda can kill a house vac.

also while you have the rug up, run a garden hose over the windshield to rule out the cowl under the wiper blades.

if its leaking you will see water running down the front of the pass side fire wall on the inside, the floor will puddle up for sure.

and pull the rubber plugs in the floor to drain what you will have to squeeze out of the wet foam. theres 2, front and back.

Thank you for all your help. As soon as I figure out what is going on, I will let you know just to keep you in the loop. Thanks again for your time...have a great day!!:th_winking:

Just letting you know that it turned out to be a hose from my sunroof...apparently it's suppose to drain to the ground but it was clogged.

good job hunting it down, now make sure the carpet is dry or it will really start to stink on you. baking soda works wonders.
