Parts list for 99 Grand Prix N/A Header upgrade.

My brother in law just picked this car up with 200,000 miles on it. Even up here in the north east this car is still in great over all shape with virtually no rust. So I told him if he wants to restore some stuff on it just let me know and I'll do the mods for free. No sooner the I said that, the flex pipe blew a giant hole in it.....which of course is how I ended up here, and why I'm now looking for information about header installs...

So, I've decided on ether Speed Daddy or SSAC headers. Haven't decided yet to be honest. The only thing that scares me is how the flex pipe is attached to the header. I mean, did they really weld that thing on there???

We live in ma and will need to pass emissions testing. So I'm looking for a parts list assuming everything needed. I plan to put a hi-flow cat in, do they usually come with the o2 bung, or will need to drill that out and place my own universal bung? I would hate to delete it, as he doesn't have the money for a tuner or anything to delete the codes with.

Do these cars come with enough pipe to bolt right up to the cat-back, so that I can just cut out a section of the new pipe to place the high flow cat?

From my understanding of reading this forum the past few days I need:

-Header kit
-2 3" band type exhaust clamps
-2 2.25" band type exhaust clamps
-fel-pro head gaskets
-High-flow cat + clamps/adapter
-RTV Gold

Am I missing anything? Would you do anything differently? Were ordering tomorrow on somewhat short notice and the budget is between 3-400$.

-Thanks

Why are you getting head gaskets? Headers come with gaskets, also rev isn't going to do anything but make a mess

Better Clamps are a suggestion!! And I don't know if my SD headers were mispacked or what, but I did not get the clamps for the cross over...

Look at ZZP for a sim if you want, or just run the o2 sensor in with a spark plug non-fouler. But that looks like a good list minus the gaskets. Copper RTV is a good idea, and SSAC and Speeddaddy's are 100% identical just made by 2 different companies, and as far as we can tell there is no real quality difference.

The only thing that may be missing off of that list is bolts from the rear most header piece to the exaust mine were melted into solid pieces, and the circle gasket from the rear most piece to the cat back, mine was not included with the headers.

Look at my writeup on installing headers.

You don't need any RTV. I do nothing special to install headers and never have a leak from not using RTV.
You don't need exhaust gaskets, the stock ones are mls and a quick wipe is all I've ever done to them. Again, never leaked.

Move the firewall where I've instructed as the O2 on those two sets typically is in a bad locaton. Then work with the straight piece of pipe they give you to put the cat in the middle of it. Which likely means you need 2 additional 3" clamps.

So I suggest either summit or Frozen Boost for the clamps. FB is typically the better cost.
2 2.25" band clamps
4 3.00" band clamps
1 can brake cleaner on hand for the gaskets
1 rag
Jack
18mm socket
13mm socket
Ratchet
15mm socket

That's about all you should need. Maybe some tools for the removal if things fight.
