Painting Time

So i have a 2001 GTP color: dark bronzemist (ya thats right... the crap colored one) I'm thinking about painting the bottom parts of the front and back bumper red. I think this would look really nice. Any thoughts?

Also I need some tips on how to do this. Sanding? How to remove? what kind of clear coat/paint do you recommend? Any advice would be great... and don't just comment making fun of my crap colored car! :)
Thanks

Turbo it...Thats my advice to everyone.

To start, wash it all off, use a wax remover and degreaser, and let it dry off. Tape off what all you dont want to paint, and start sanding.

Make sure to wet-sand, start off rather rough, 220grit or so, working up to 480ish.
Use a good primer, and lay down a few coats. Wet sand with 600grit, and spray your color on. I did 3 thin coats, then wet-sanded with 600grit. Lay down a few more coats, and let it dry.

After a good drying period *dependent on the paint you use* go ahead and lay down a thin coat of your clear-coat. Dont spray it heavy, or it'll look like ****.

Let it dry, then spray a medium coat on, followed by a "wet" coat of clear. (it should just look wet, no heavier)

Let it dry for awhile, and be happy.

red lower valances on a bronzemist!? im thinkin rice. unless it really flows with the car. so prove me wrong, that its not rice.

mine is black and silver (STOCK COLOR) Id rather have it red lol

but if i did the front... i would have to do the back and i have a red Inlay on the rear... so **** that.

Not really digging the Bronzemist with black either...I think a dark Cherry red, or even a silver would look good.

Dark cherry red may look good if there is something else on the car to tie the bumpers in.

I did my bumpers in a bronzemist color (car is green) in a single stage. I was going to flatten it a little, but decided to leave it glossy.

No not red, leave them the factory color to be honest. Just paint like the calipers a good gold color. That is what I am going to do with my bronze mist. Then some black rims.

I agree - not red. But something deep like that dark cherry mentioned, or maybe even purplish might look good, too, if it's the right shade. Have to be careful with purple, though. There's a fine line between purple showing royalty and purple that makes it look like you're going for the Joker look.

I don't know guys i still think red would look pretty sharp. I would def paint all 4 calipers red as well to tie it in. Id feel better about it if i had a picture of someones bronzemist GP already done like this

^ This would look nice. I think I would personally go with a low gloss black and put some overlays on the plate filler and rear bumper.

Thats what you ended up doing with yours right? any pics to share?

I just need something besides bronzemist bronzemist and more bronzemist :)

Paint it whatever color you want it...I said I was going to paint a Grand Prix purple & alot of people told me NO because it would look rice or just not right..

Paint it red if you dont like it you can always repaint it another color..

i wanna paint my fascias and calipers red, then do red racing stripes, but my car is black so red will go well with it. I think red with color would look like **** with blood on it.
