Painting Technique?

I am getting ready to redo my fascias, just have a few questions to make sure I do it right.

1. What type of paint should I use? Want to go with a flat black
2. What's the sanding process? Which sandpaper?
3. Anything else I need to know to make it successful?

The last time I painted them they didn't turn out that great I want to make sure they look much better this time!

400 before primer all around, if your going to mud some dents use 180 in the spot then go back over with 400. After two to three cotes of primer go back over with 400 very lightly just to get that smooth surfers. With flat black I'd do three coats of top coat then a nice buffing.

if your gonna throw body filler on you want atleast 80 grit on plastic, and 40 grit on metal you want it to stick and not crack off. if your using putty coat on it you can get away with 180 grit. you want to use 220 grit then primer, you use 400 if your going to a sealer. after sealer you dont need to sand (unless time exceeds limits usualy 24-48 hours) but if you do you can use 600 or 800 wet or just scuff with a yellow scuff pad.

you want to do a 50% overlap when you spray. you want to use even and steady strokes. surface prep has alot to do with how the finish comes out.

Ok so use 400 grit after cleaning the surface really well. Then primer, let dry then sand again and then use a few costs of the black and then apply clear coat? Is a primer necessary if I'm going from silver to black?
