P401 Code On 00 GTP

My 2000 GTP threw the SES light and I brought it to auto zone and it ran code P401, which I know is a EGR issue. I guess my question is I know there are a few diff egr codes, for this should I start by trying to clean the EGR? I actually disconnected the battery to clear the code just to make sure it wasnt a loose piece of carbon that pulled through it stayed off for about 24 hrs and came back....the thing is that my car is running fine, no idle issue or anything, so could it be that its just barely at the tolerance to trigger the light?

Also, I keep seeing that there is an issue with plastic intakes on pontiacs, are the intake manifolds plastic on the supercharged model as well? Just wondering if anyone has battled this code in particular and if there was a weird cause Thanks guys!

If u have a GTP then what do u mean the plastic manifolds on supercharged models as well? GTP's come from the factory supercharged so therefore your supercharged as well my friend. The 1997-2003 L36 equipped GT's have a plastic upper intake manifold and some of the 04's and possibly 05's also. I could be mistaken so somebody correct me if im wrong. The L26 model blocks have an aluminum upper intake manifold. But for your EGR, honestly ud be better off just buying another EGR unit from a junkyard if u dont want to pay all that much for a new one from a parts store or just scrap it. I scrapped mine due to installing an intercooler, and havent noticed any loss of performance or anything. Where u live u might have to have it for emissions of some sort. I dont know, just tryin to help. up here in South Dakota there are no emissions or anything so i dont know to much about all that non sense. lol.

Thanks for the help, any other ideas? Its easy enough to clean tha tI will try that first. Nothing major is going to go wrong driving the car around town due to the egr right?

egr is just for emissions, so it wont effect driving. also, its only on when cruising, so its not even on during idle or wot.

only thing i can think of that may be affected is gas mileage, but that will still be minimal.

another option you could do would be delete it all together. get a couple block off plates for the exhaust and intake, and have the codes removed from the pcm. is your car stock?

car has a one size smaller SC pulley, and a K and N style intake, but those are the only mods....I will try giving it a good cleaning and see how that does......
