P1811 code (maximum adapt and long shift)

I'm working on a car for another guy (98 Regal GS). It has an Intense Tranny with 3.69's and 3000 stall. The PCS was supposedly replaced when Intense rebuilt it 5000 miles ago. A couple of posts I found about this mention something about HPTuners and how it deals with torque management on the 98's.

To test that theory, I may just reflash the PCM with a 98 Regal GS file and tune it from scratch......but I was wondering if others knew anything about this.

Not sure what exactly you mean about the TM on 98s but you never want to completely turn it off in the trans section or it will cause part throttle problems. Do you have the ability to retune the pcm and make changes to the trans?. It shouldnt have the P1811 problem with that low of mileage as they replace all solenoids during rebuilds and i am yet to see a new replacement solenoid fail in that matter of time but if there was for some reason a lot of debris in the trans then it could happen and cause valve body problems. How is the shift feel? What all is done to the car?

I'm planning on overwriting the PCM file completely because Intense tuned it with HPTuners. I'll at least try to read it first so I can see what they did. I have a powertuner, and the owner of this car brought his HPTuner with the car.

The owner created a thread on clubGP back in May and Tim King said he saw this before on 98's and to "back down" the TM.:th_wtf:

So I'm probably going to start a brand new file for his car and use the PowerTuner. I have a copy of a stock 98 Regal GS file and I'll work from there.

Here's his mod list:
Engine:
XPZ cam, ZZP S3 Heads, 42.5 injectors, N* TB, LS6/LQ4 MAF, Gen5 SC (that's what I'm installing), Intense 1.9" intercooler, 3.0 pulley (for now), TOG headers.

Tranny:
Fully built Intense tranny with everything except their LSD (whew!). 3000 stall, and 3.69 gears. I'm trying to find out if he has the reluctor or not since it appears I need to program the PCM differently for that.

Any tips on what I need to change for the 3.69's and 3000 stall?

I have never used a PT and dont know much about it but I have heard the trans tables you can adjust arent the same or at least as many as HPT can play with. If there is not an incorrect gear ratio code then I would copy and paste what is on the existing file. For the stall converter you shouldnt have to do anything, but because the lockup clutch likely isnt a woven carbon one as the factory ones are that are designed to allow slippage then you will also need to see what they did in the tune for the TCC min duty% and bump up the stock table a bit to help with lockup. The only way to rule out the EPC is to get the trans hot and when the code will become present after clearing it and install a pressure gauge and use a scan tool to command line pressure changes and watch the gauge to see if it is doing what it is supposed to. The boost valve should also be new in the valve body if not the whole valve body, but again if there is excessive debris contaminating the valve body it can cause all sorts of weird problems.

For reference, Dave. The transmission tables between HPT and PT are night and day. IMO the HPT is a much better way of tuning a car, but you know what I said for back in the day...it's all I could afford.

Thanks for the input. I have a PT myself, but the owner has his HPT in the car that I can use.....I just need to figure it out since it will be my first time using the HPT Suite.

I picked up my PT for a couple hundred, so I'm not complaining about what it does and doesn't have. :D
