P0171 with new MAF sensor

Thanks Bill for your response. Would you mind providing a bit more detail on your suggestion. I haven't had to work on these parts before. Also do you think that this could cause the stalling and hard starting? Yesterday it would still start this morning it's back to stalling and being basically useless. Thanks.
 
Honestly..I'd be looking at the maf, reman isn't original parts.. but hey.. we can't always be super picky.

Approach the car from the front. Put your hands the upper engine mounts. Look down just to the right of your right hand where the engine and trans meet. There is a stud in the lowest and frontmost position that hold the engine/trans. On that stud are the negative battery cable and two grounds. Those are the main grounds for the engine and sensors. About this time, you'll realize you are looking like the postion you are standing in looks to your neighbors like you are either planning on being arrested or hoping for some kinky sex. Stand up man.. jeez you don't want them having those thoughts about you. :th_laugh-lol3:

The nut holding the grounds on is a 15mm. Watch that the stud doesn't spin, if it does you need a thin 18mm wrench. I ground one of my wrenches to fit.

Well I did ask for more detail lol. Alright I'll check that out. Well the MAF box is stamped OEM so are they just lying or what?
 
You said it was a reman ..right?

Reman says..someone had an issue and someone else put their pudgy fingers in there to "fix" it. I'm not sure why our cars hate aftermarket maf's, so any dicking around inside or to reman a maf doesn't sit well with me. Only because our cars are so damn picky about a simple sensor.

Do you know how a maf works, it's a pretty neat lhing.

Well looks like I was duped by autozone again. I'm really beginning to hate that place. I told them it had to original equipment. They promised me up and down that it was. I don't know the specifics of how they work exactly they just sit in the air stream and monitor it some how and then send signals for the fuel mixture.
 


Yeah..that's about the jist. it measures the amount of current needed to heat the element (wire). More airflow cools the wire, requiring more current.

Oh.. maybe Autozone did sell you a billion dollar sensor? But if it's a reman.. it's been dicked with by someone to fix it. Hence remanufactured. It's ok to hate them.. lots of people do. :th_winking:

This is what I've got. This is to the right of the right upper mounting bracket. Nothing there looks like a ground to me but what do I know.
 
Morad Parts is your friend, just get an OEM used from him, he tests that they're working and they're nice and cheap.
 
It still seems odd that the reman would work fine for like 5 days and then stop if that is the problem. Could it be getting shorted out or something like that? Also still can't figure that grounding situation.
 


Ok yah found it. So what am I looking for exactly? Just make sure it is attached and the wire looks good? Mine is covered in oil so I suppose I should probably clean it. I should be able to spray degreaser directly down onto it without any problem right?
 


Well I guess first I'm going to go swap out for another brand of MAF that they have in stock. It's a Cardone. Anyone have experience with that brand?
 
get one from a junk yard. they cost no more then 40 bucks used with a warranty so if it dont work, you can swap it again.

ive been using one for the last 2 years in my car. after market mafs dont fair well in these cars.
