P0102 Mass airflow sensor

Hey guys. I have a 2000 GT that is throwing a P0102 code symptoms are intermitently stalling and idle fluctuations. The stalling doesnt happen to ofted but is random, I could be driving down the street and it will stall or it could happen at a stop light. It starts back up fine with no problems though. I also need to have this car emissions tested and here in Ontario no codes are permitted. The MAF sensor looked pretty clean but I cleaned it with some MAF cleaner anyway. The MAF screen is clean. There are no blown fuses. I didn't check for voltage or frequency to the MAF because I dont have a tester that peirces the wire. I have read countless threads regarding This issue and there doesnt neem to be a specific solution. I don't want to spend $150+ on a new sensor and have it now be the problem. I unplugged the sensor and the idle issues remained, I didn't drive around with it unplugged though. I was told by a mechanic friend that it is likely to be a vaccum leak. I want to check for this today. Any help would be appreciated, If you had this problem resolved before, how did you do it? Was it the sensor? Vacuum leak? Something else?

OBD-II Trouble Code: P0102 Mass Air Flow (MAF) Circuit Low Input this is the code you have and its description.


id check the wires at the plug to the maf, any cracks in the insulation can cause the code to come up as well. when air gets to the copper wire its gets whats called dry wire, ( turns brown, not shinny copper anymore) and no longer passes current like it should.

if the wires are good.

then dont by a after market maf, they suck. its best to get a used oem one from a junk yard, they run 40 ish or less and have a warranty if you dont pocket it. wink wink.

write your part # down, its on the maf, then look for it at the yard, these mafs were used in a lot of GM cars, not just GP's. n/a and sc'ed engines, same maf.

Thanks, good call on the junk yard parts. And thats good to know that othger GM models used the same part. I will check the wires better.

if you bend the plug back right were the wire enter the plastic plug they brake there and hide some. remember these wires have been baking in the heat of the cross over since 2000.
