overheating

yet again another question for you guys lol i fixed the rough running, it was the injector orings, but i have a problem overheating, but its a 98 gp with a 3.8, i did a lim gasket swap with the aluminum, and put on a dorman uim, and aluminum elbow, before the new parts i put on a new thermostat and radiator cap and it didnt overheat so i don't think its them two that's the problem. but the car sits on 210 at idle for about 25 minutes then will rise to almost the red but never gets that far. and while driveing it will rise almost to the red then almost back down to 210 and keep doing that, and the cooling fans are not coming on, i did break the temperature sensor and had to put on a bwd brand one from advance, do you think that could be the problem? i bleed the system over and over so i know there is no air in the system, also if it is the temp sensor should i go with acdelco or delphi

Possibility that sensor is junk, its well know they are bad right out of the box. Does the temp actually hit 210 via a scan tool?

i dont have a scan tool. or a heat gun, i was just looking on advance auto's web site and the sensor has a 1 star rateing out of 5 and everybodys fans were not cutting on, im thinking im gonna just go all in, and get a acdelco sensor, water pump and thurmostat and do a good flush, and go green, that way i have no worrys because i drive it 390 miles a week,

I would get another sensor, and also inspect the wiring for it. If you damaged the sensor you may have damaged the wiring on accident.

yup try another temp sensor.

unplugging the temp sensor should put both fans on full time. at least it wont over heat and you can get around to the store. if the fans dont turn on theres another issue.

If the fans don't cut on what should i look into? it has a new relay for the fans and they did work before all the work but they didn't spin as fast as my maxima but idk how fast they should go lol. the junk yard has been my best friend lately

if they dont come on temp sensor unplugged itd look to the relays. or the fans itself, or its plug and wires.

sounds like the pos temp sensor. maybe snag one of them from the junk yard. new seem to suck pretty bad. almost everyone who changed one has to swap in 2 or 3 new ones till they work.

The temp sensor actually sends two figures... first to the PCM (which is what actually commands A/F ratios and kicks the fans on when needed) and second to that little guessing gauge on the dashboard.

There's a good chance your temp sensor was bad on arrival. The last time I had to replace one, I had to exchange it three times before I got a working one.

Try new temp sensor. I had this issue and it took 4 sensors to get it right haha and dont go to the same store get different brands

I tested some stuff and it is the sensor. so i orderd a acdelco one if it don't work I'm gonna grab one from pull a part
