recently my car started to overheat even sitting in idle!!!....my display started going off b/c of low coolant....okay...so i put more coolant....and still overheating!..i thought it may be the t-stat but the radiator hose gets hot, so its not stuck on close and i dont think it is stuck open either...the coolant i put in yesterday is already gone! hmmm..but there is coolant in the radiator but not the resevior??? i dont have any leaks...could this be b/c my radiator fans are broke??? idk..maybe b/c i have noticed that neither of the fans turn on!...could this cause my coolant to be used up quickly? PLEASE HELP!

yes, if your fans are not working, you will be burning up the water, but if its not leaking, and you are losing water, it could be going into the oil, or out the exhaust.. have you checked oil?

ok...changed the t-stat...still overheating...found a crack in..wut i think is the water pump bybass "black, L shaped pipe" going into engine..under the supercharger.....ANY IDEAS...is this a ***** job to do? i have a Haynes Manual and plan on doing the work myself.....any suggestions.?

That plastic coolant tube isn't too bad to do. You'll have to pull some accessories to get the bracket loose so you can remove and install the new plastic elbow. You still need to make sure that's not your only problem and why did it crack in the 1st place. Your car is fairly new.

i am assuming it was the t-stat that went out..i replaced it w/ 180 degree t-stat...now my car doesnt overheat until the coolant is gone due to the leak...anybody know where to buy this plastic coolant tube?

steelership has em im sure. you do need to try and figure out why it broke though and replace em both not just one. goodluck

I got the two little elbows from Oreilly for my 2000. both of them came in the pack they were like 4 bucks?

I dont have that same issue but i have a similar one.. one day my 2000 grand prix GT 3800 overheated into the red zone in my driveway. right away i changed the thermostat and did a flush and fill just to be safe. Since then it has always run hot. driving at about 40 mph it stays about 210 -215 but when idling or slow driving it runs anywhere from 210-230. i recently changed the water pump and the coolant temp sensor and same problem occurred.. i thought maybe it had an air pocket in it but ive bled it out several times and tried to burp it but nothing has helped my problem. The gaskets arent cracked, oils clean, no leaks. top radiator hose to thermostat doesnt feel like it has a lot of pressure tho..It is 80-90 degrees outside right now... is this normal or can i do something to bring the temp down below 210? PLEASE LET ME KNOW! thanksss

pull your plugs, and i have a crack in my reservoir but i just moved the hose up and switched to a metal hose clamp.
