overheating issue

Im joining this because I have a issue with my 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GT with it running hot.

Whats going on is my cooling fans are not coming on, the only way they come on is if I turn on the AC or the defrosters. Also it sometimes has an issue starting, if it sits for 8+ hours it will fire right up however sometimes if I go to the store and it sits for a shorter period of time then 8 hours it doesn't want to fire up.

Can anyone please help guide me in the best course of action, I dont want to not have my car for a week and a big bill if its something that I can fix on my own.

My fans do the same thing. I was told to replace the coolant temperature sensor, but haven't gotten around to installing it yet. I'll let you know if it works.

Ive replaced that part already so I don't know what else can be wrong, I was told that it can be the computer as well though.

I just replaced my temp sensor and my fans still don't work either.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for this issue?

The fans are not supposed to come on until something like 220°F coolant temp. So unless your car is getting that hot, the fans will not come on. Try turning on the AC, I think that should automatically make the fans turn on.

The car is getting that hot. And even when it is cooler outside, the car still gets that hot. I can't always drive around with the AC on. It's cold in mornings and nights.

220* are they suppose to run that hot? mine with the stock thermostat is 195 maybe 200 when i hammer on it.
oh wait my pcm is modified i forgot, but before that i remember it getting above 200 to 210

Your car doesn't warm up in eight miles? Jeez. Even when it's cooler outside mine is at normal temps within about two.

well it does warm up but it doesn't start to get hot though so Im ok, besides I drive easy on my way to work no reason to burn $50 worth of gas going to a place to make money.
