Overheating. Im out of ideas

Hit redline driving to school today. Stopped, let it cool then put some water in it(Didn't need much) to top it off. Went to drive it home and as soon as it was about to hit redline again, I guess the t-stat or something finally broke loose cause then the temp dropped almost back to normal.

I've dealt with this same problem before in this car. I replaced the t-stat and flushed. Worked fine for a little over a month. I only ran flush through it once though opposed to several times as suggested, since i saw it dropped a lot of crud and started running smoothly again.

Maybe there is clogging? Should I try just flushing the thing a couple times?
 


When I flushed mine last I ran flush like your suppose to, pulled the thermostat, then just put a water hose to the inlet and let its sit and run, made it have constantly new water being pumped thru the engine, once all the crap was out and it was just clean cool water flowing out I killed the car, let it cool. Put my 180* thermo back in, hooked the hose back up, more coolant, bled the system and been golden since :th_thumbsup-wink:

but if the thermo is nasty id replace it, you can tell when it needs to be replaced, if its got junk on it or rust, get a new one
 
Yea I went through pretty much that exact process.
Just reflushed it and yea the stat got covered in gunk again.
so i replaced that too. just gotta run the cleaner for a few hours then ill throw in some coolant. hopefully it works
 
When I have flushed cars, I pull the heater hoses off the alternator bracket and the top hose off the LIM to pull the T stat. Then flush water every which way possible for close to an hour usually. By the time everything is flowing clear and good...it's been about an hour and I'm soaked in the process. (Always let the newbie do their own car..lol)
 
Yup I might as well wash my dog while im already soaked.
If only I could get some some girls in white tees to help me flush it out :th_eyebrows:

But I changed the t-stat and now im running cleaner through it but it's already running normal again.... guess it was just a bad. Hopefully it lasts until my other gp is done :th_thumbsup-wink:
 
After I replaced the water pump on my dodge ram it was still overheating. I pulled into napa just as the needle hit the "overheat" mark. I bought a thermostat, gasket, and a new radiator cap.

I popped the hood. I took three towels and placed them over the cap. Took a step back and with my arm stretched out, I twisted the cap off and jumped back. The steaming hot towels fell to the ground and a stream of boiling hot coolant sprang up nearly 18" hitting the hood. Holy Crap! Coolant continued flowing out for about 7-10 seconds. I put the new cap on and took it for a spin. Problem solved! The new thermostat has been sitting in my glove box for over a year now. What's the lesson of the story? Don't forget about the radiator cap and for your own sake, let the engine cool before removing that cap!
