Overheating Fuel Pump?

1998 GTP : Today I was driving around nothing too hardcore and at one point I ended up at a Train crossing the tracks.. instead of waiting with the engine running I shut off the car (Hello gas is about $4.50!) and about 5-10 mins later when I went to start the car It began to turn over but died out before it completely started running.. after pushing the car a block to get out of traffic I tried again this time the care started (Foot Lightly on the gas) but not very well.. stumbling and struggling. when I take my foot off the gas it died. I figured it was the fuel pump since it was getting close to running.. so I called a tow co. Waited 30 mins and 2 seconds before they arrived I figured for giggles-n-grins I would give it another try and she fired right up! My thoughts are that my fuel pump is on it's way out OR maybe somehow (Even with a full tank of gas) it just overheated and needed to cool down? Does ANY of this make sense? Am I New? I dont want to spend money that I dont have to..but I am also nervous at the idea of trying to get to work or anywhere and have it PERMANENTLY happen again.. all help is appreciated and any comments are welcome.. Thanks
 


It's a common issue, i would at least do rewire and be searching for a used canister or a new pump.
 
If you pull up the carpet in the trunk as you are sitting in the rear seat of the car with the rear seats out or down, about 6-10" from the backseat there is an access panel, take that off and you can see the top of the canister.

i posted one somewhere on these forums already, anyways here it is again. number 10 is the canister.

Sorry, i call it a canister but it's actually referred to as a fuel pump module. But that just sounds gay calling it that. It would be #8 on the pic. It looks like these when it comes out and the fuel pump sits in it. This should have nothing to do with evap.

So even after being able to drive around for a week or two the car has done it again..so I will probably be buying a new high flow pump from TREperformance (Anybody got an opinion on that?) also just to clarify there should be an access panel under the carpet in the trunk? I wont have to dropthe tank down? Cause that would be a major pain in the arse!
