--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hi guys...I need help....I have a 06 GP and...the check engine light came on the other day.....took it by my local shop....they hooked it up to the diagnostic machine....he said the code it gave off was low anti-freeze and bad thermastat....We added anti-freeze and replaced the thermastat....the Temp gauge will not go down....the fans come on....but the gauge it self stays at about half way up....sometimes it goes over half way....we also bleed the air out of the system.....When it was on the diagnostic machine....when the gauge was half way up....the machine said the temp of the enigine was 200 degrees.......Please help...is the gauge bad....

200 is normal... its only a 195* t-stat.

the highest temp i've seen is 220 with stock fan settings.

If its overheating either the head gasket is bad (very unlikely) or there is air in the system (likely)

Sorry for the double post...I know the temp on the engine is good....it is the gauge that is wrong....before replacing the thermastat....the gauge stayed at about the first quauter mark.....now it is on the half way make.....goes over it sometimes....

Half way up is about 200, 1/4 way up on mine is 180ish. So if your car is at 200 and the gauge is half way up it is normal.

mine is doing this as well. getting thermostat replaced soon. my car is missing a bit as well though that is fairly obvious under part throttle at low rpms and when car is idling. was told by mechanic that the thermostat could be causing this somewhat as coolant is not warming up properly and temp sensor could be off.
