Our new-to-us 2006 GXP

Some of the guys on my local forum asked what the Grand Prix sounded like when you goose it a bit. Since I'm stuck home tonight I ran outside and took this quick vid. Can't really see the car in the dark, but you can hear it! Click in the pic below. Enjoy.

And since it was sitting right next to the GP, did a quick one of the Dodge Ram too with the 360 Magnum in it....which is MUCH louder. In the video I say it has Echotrapp tips, when I meant Echochamber tips. You get the idea....

Just wasting time!

Ok I held off on sharing this, but here we go.

Stupidity 101....get a neat new car, and don't pull it far enough into the garage...then close the garage door and see how big a scratch you can make in the rear bumper before the door reverses itself....

Happened Tuesday night...been too embarressed to mention it... Since it went into the body shop, I'm having a lot of work done on it.... Can’t believe I’m spending money on a car we just bought, but want it to be as nice as possible.

The rear bumper is now gouged right in the middle because of our shear stupidity, but it had some small scratches near the trunk even before we gouged it with the garage door. Clearly where the previous owner drug stuff over the paint pulling it out of the trunk.

The front bumper has the usual pecks and chips that a painted-bumper 60K-mile car will get, but again a few are down to the black plastic. In addition the car has a deep scratch on both rear ¼ panels, one just above the wheel-well, the other just behind it….like the previous owner had kids with bikes and they ran the bare handlebars against the car. The scratches are at the same level on both sides, so I think it had to be a bike. One is about 3-inches long, and the other is about 8-inches long. They are too deep to hide with touch-up paint...I got a better deal on the car because they were there...planned to fix them anyway...

Also, the headlights have some sun-damage on the tops, and finally all four of the rare and expensive Alcoa polished forged wheels have some scratches/curb damage. The driver’s side front wheel is the worst, it’s scraped up on the edge and the spokes as well. These wheels are HARD to find…Pontiac only used them in ’05- early ‘06, then then went to a less-detailed and cheaper wheel made in Taiwan for the mid-’06 to ’08 GXP’s.

SO the car is in the body shop to have both front and rear bumpers repainted, the rear ¼ panels repainted, and while it’s there all four wheels are coming off and being sent out to be repaired and re-polished. Will also be installing new headlights since the bumper will be off anyway.

I’m really hoping they can match the paint well….the silver has a lot of metallic in it and if it’s not right, it’ll show. I've not gone to check on it yet...again can't believe this happened...car still has temp tags on it for goodness sake!

Lastly, this weekend I have to hit the salvage yards for a spare tire and jack kit. GXP’s did not come with a spare or jack, you only got a can of fix-a-flat and there is a compressor in the trunk. Not ideal. The regular Grand Prix spare will not fit over the large PBR brake calipers, so GM deleted the spare. Stupid. A 17-inch spare from a Cadillac DTS will fit, and will also fit in the tire well in the trunk. A ’04-06 Pontiac GTO spare will also fit, but doubt I can find a GTO in the salvage yard.

I still really like this car. We took the back road from Georgetown to Leander on Tuesday before screwing it up, and with Misty and the kids in the car I ran the sucker up to 100mph on the straight-as-an-arrow quarry road. It was rock-steady and pulling hard when Misty yelled at me to back off, despite both kiddos cheering in the back seat. :th_biggrin2:

Fingers are crossed that it comes out of the body shop looking new....
