Opinions on grand am's

donated to get this wow
I was at a buddys shop today looking for my oil leak (oil pressure sensor)

and say a 99 or so Grand am gt sitting there lien sale i guess didnt have a chance to talk to him but i know it has a rebuilt top end and runs just need minor stuff and a cat
he wants 1600 obo

Ill find out more tomorow but thought it would be a decent car to replace my wife wagon with as her dd

i got a 01 at 115k, bought it at 87k and never had a prob since, then again, not saying that happens to everyone..also, the 2.4L

no. find an older accord of camry. If you don't mind issues, but the car still goes from a to b, then get the grand am.

I know she likes the look and stuff Ill test drive it tomorrow and see if he will drop the price to 1300 so i can get the cat replace and an o2 sensor

It looked clean some one brought it in couldnt pay and so on so they fixed it and the kids parents gave him the ttle so the lien sale wont be that bad

I still want her in a regal gs but she likes the g/a

My grand am leaks water inside. I have had mine since 197k and have had to put a starter, battery, cut out the cat cuz it was clogged, also the rad fan is not working. Does not over heat so I am not too worried about it. Pretty sure it is the fuzeable link in the wiring harness for it.

I mean thats all petty stuff that i contribute to routine repair with age

plus the stuff that will happen soon after you replace all the stuff that the previous owner hasn't replaced. Its GM, you better have deep pockets if you want it to be completely up to par all the time. I hate GM for some reason. It's because I keep buying them and keep sinking money into repairing them, and repair them all day at work over stupid crap from terrible engineering. The only reason I buy American built vehicles is because its built here in America. And I only buy Union built American vehicles. No Hondas or Toyotas. yeah, my sig says differently. so be it, I didn't buy either of those cars. one i'm stuck with and the other is sentimental.

i like the grand am gt's with the 3400 and ram air hood, good lookin little car, and pretty peppy.

In all honesty I have owned a few chevy's the ones i have owned from low mileage never had any trouble cause i maintain cars the way they should be used ones with higher miles i bought all needed the same stuff mainly routine or from neglect

I have also owned dodge, ford, honda, kia, saturn and my conclusion is that it all comes down to how you treat your ride
the cars i had the most trouble with were dodge's and the honda cause it had high miles and was beat on

Quote for the truth.. You do have to admit that some cars have known problems, but with saying that ALL cars have known problems. I dare you to tell me one car that does not have any problems and runs perfect 100% of the time forever.

There arent any parts fail if they built cars to run forever they couldnt make money

But with routine care and up keep all cars can hit the 200k mark easy
ANd for the cars that get pushed harder they will break faster

My girlfriend has a 97 GA GT 3.1 and she bought it with 80k and it has 126k on it now, and all she's had replaced was the window motor. It runs good and it's pretty snappy.

im looking at regals prix and some others but this car kinda fell in my lap so to speak and i know i ccan get it at a decent price

Didn't the highest trim level on a Grand AM come with a 3800? If it did, a top swap would make a nice sleeper lol
