I have a pretty much stock '97 GTP minus a wizaired intake. what do you guys think i should dump my money into as my first big mod. Intercooler or headers and why? also what would ballpark prices be for the installation?

How much money do you have? That way we have a ballpark figure of mods to give you. Get headers...then an intercooler, then a small pulley...like a 3.0" or something...then a tune...

Oh...then bye bye transmission...'97 tranny's are the weak vacuum powered ones.

i have around 1500 or so. what would the limit of mods i could go to without blowing the trans, cuz thats the last thing i want to do lol. would you suggest trying to upgrade the trans or would that be a waste?

Actully IIRC, the GTPs had the 4T65-HD (though slightly different than later units). The early GTs had the vacuum powered trans (4T60-E), mid year they changed to the 4T65-E which they used throughout production which weren't vacuum...

triple edge performance trans =] intercooler smaller pulley headers with 3 inch downpipe and a nice set of rumbling mufflers id say =] oo and intercooled with a northstar throttle body and then port your supercharger lim and n* t-body and get a tune and get a t-stat =]

more then ur limit though but i dont blame u cuz i have no money at all right now =[ lol good luck and have funnnnn

All I got out of that was intercooler, and headers.

Headers have a downpipe, you don't have to get it separate.

Sure? I could have sworn all the '97's had vacuum powered transmissions?

Who knows...all I know is any GP'er that mods like crazy is going to be needing a transmission soon enough.

nope, only the 97 GTs. that is why you never top swap a 97 GT.

get a 2.8 pulley for the blower and get a 150 shot of NOS or ZEX lol hold on!! but you will def blow your engine and trans ROTFLMAO

Good to know...I just thought it was a universal '97 nightmare...or was I wrong in thinking that the '97's 4T65E-HD was still weaker than the later versions?

Anywho...I still stand buy the intercooler and headers...GTP's love breathing and keeping cool...stock cars are like a cholesterol addicted fat chick in the summertime with no A/C. Get it? :th_winking:

I've heard people say 97' 4T65-HDs were weaker but i'm not for sure. I heard there were a couple small things different in them. Best man for those details would definatly be Trannyman.

I like your quote BTW! LOL :th_thumb-up::p
