Lighter, freer revving valvetrain isn't a "waste" of money if you got them at the right price.

Also: stock guides are clearanced to .550". Anything more than that would need to have the guides milled...or have the special install kits like that are offered for the XPZ/Thrasher, etc.

Get one of those... Stick it on teh end of the pushrod and see how much lift you get out of the cam....

1.6 yella's will run on just about any cam, assuming the head is provisioned for extra lift. It has to be cammed. Nobody in their right mind would run 1.6 yella terras on a stock valvetrain motor...thats an obsurd waste of money if they did.

So chances are the heads have been modified for the extra lift?

are they noisy as hell?

If they are, OE-R's are probably in there.

If they're not noisy, they're either stock or LS7, both are fine to run. Stock lifters will start to collapse under high rpm ( 6700 and up ), but most people dont run that high anyways
 
You need to check. Im willing to bet YES, but never assume when its your own vehicle...especially one you didnt build.

Which is kinda why i want to just replace the parts and leave it as is for now, i mean chances are it would run fine once that is done, Then if i ever decide to do the xpz, Tear down the block and finally look at it all.
 
Check the video out. It does sound like it is cammed due to the sound of it but as I said I don't want to say yes to something unless I have proof.

Sounds cammed to me! If anything instead of pulling the whole motor just use our old fashion method and drop the cradle to pull the cam out.

Honestly I have never done it that way, I always liked pulling out the top I use a forklift and it's pretty easy to do. And with the engine out I can get to things way better and pull things apart as well. All aftermarket cams have a name on them don't they?
 


Pretty easy to do it that way...but if you can pull it I'd recommend that so you'll have more space to work with and the cam should have the specs of it on it.

I believe he meant just lowering the subframe enough by loosening the bolts to pull the cam out the pass. wheelwell and not drop the whole cradle entirely out.
 
Oh yeah I know he meant that just never been a fan of that method, even though I never tried it lol but pulling it out with a forklift always seemed easy to me. But I highly doubt i will be pulling anything out if anything I will use the tool to measure the height of intake and exhaust.
