on a gxp would it be safe to run a 255/55/18 tire on our cars?

I realize that most of the tires I'm going to find are for a truck but I was wondering if I could run a tire this size to protect my 18" rims. I have a railroad track that has ruined set of my rims and I broke one of my stock rims from a pothole. so I was hoping someone would have a clue as to weather I can run these?
 


That's really tall man it might rub on the strut but not sure if anything try running lower air pressure 30-32 ish and using more situational awarness
 
No way it will fit. Stock tires are in the 26.7" tall range. Those would be 29.04" tall. Those are almost small truck tires.

Guys its a GXP there already 255/45/18 and according to the tire calculator you only gain 2.04mm in diameter so its probably safe to run it after all.
 


My mistake on the mm in yes 2 inches. However given that people run grand Prix's on 20"s it still is feasible. Not practile though by any means imo
 
Just slow down for the potholes. Houston is terrible and I haven't ever destroyed a wheel or tire yet. I go through shocks more often than I wish, but be more careful driving and you should be fine.
 
the pothole i couldnt do anything about. i was going 70 on I-70 following the flow of traffic and when the front end dips on the truck in front of me i tried to slow down but it was too late.. un fortunately my car looks like **** right now with two black rims on front and stocks on the back.. i still have the originals from the front and had all the curb rash that was on them taken off.. so maybe if anyone wants them or the set i may be able to sell them if anyone is interested in them?
