Re: My 2004 Grand Prix Problems/Maintenance List

It's good to make a list.

I have a slight tap from ~1.5k to 2.5k that goes and comes. I'm not worried about it.

But I do have a clicking sound when going from F-R or R-F. That I am a little concerned about.

Other than the dings, missing paint, and scratches... no cares. But I might get my hood and front bumper repainted sometime as they look like total ****.

Re: My 2004 Grand Prix Problems/Maintenance List

I just bought my 04 compG last week and its already got a list... It's only got 67k on it but I almost think it's worse for cars to sit than be driven daily.

Re: My 2004 Grand Prix Problems/Maintenance List

I have to replace my elbows AGAIN, since they're seeping. I'll use aluminum this time
My serpentine belt is all cracked but I guess I haven't cared to replace it, I probably should.
My power steering needs to be flushed as well. It's absolutely silent, but the fluid smells burnt and old.
Make sure your ticking isn't an exhaust leak. A higher load but under lower RPM's can make an exhaust tick louder.
Oil changes are needed by all cars of course, mine got dark quick since its the first time using synthetic at 110k, should probably change it.
Does your window get real slow and just not make it? Or does it go fast and just stop before it's supposed to?
Your jet may be clogged on your drivers wiper.

I've been able to fix the 2 dents that came with my car, I got lucky being able to heat and pop my bumper dent out, and also got lucky finding a navy blue door in good condition for $50
I think I need to install the deflector on or impala, I did the filter and its smelling like mold already.

Here's my list, it's pretty short as I've been doing lots of work to it since I got it. And good luck with yours! :th_thumbsup-wink:
Replace downstream o2 sensor
Plugs + Wires
Clean upholstery
Grease all window regulator guides/tracks
Flush power steering fluid
Apply undercoating/repaint areas

Re: My 2004 Grand Prix Problems/Maintenance List

Wow a low milage problem ridden gtp as well. So what's the list?. Any major problems such as the gaskets and such.
So far ive done a tune up, replaced the battery, fixed my blower motor, cooling fan and ac problems (all fuses), restored my headlights, and did some cleaning. I literally made it 3 miles on the way home the day I bought it before the top coolant elbow broke, no signs of seepage what so ever before hand, had to replace them in a gas station parking lot.
My list so far:
Sunroof drains are plugged.
Got a CEL for catalyst insufficiency as it ran its monitors, sounds like the cat is rattling in the mufflers. Not a huge deal was gonna go with a catless DP anyways.
Id like to put a SLP cat back on it.
the rims need some cleaning
prolly needs a pair of tires.
plan on putting in the better LIM gaskets before the old ones start leaking
flushing out the red stuff and going green
Tranny fluid and filter
oh and a cai.
I guess it's not that bad of a list, it is a 10 year old car. I just think that if it was a DD and had say 120k on it there wouldn't be so many smaller issues. Sitting is the worst thing for cars. I also fell for the "woman owned car" title in the ad, I guess it could be a good thing in some cases but in this case it just means it got run into everything lol. I do love the car tho and it's more of a toy than basic transportation so ill just keep fixing things as they come.

Re: My 2004 Grand Prix Problems/Maintenance List

Month of having my car I have replaced..

Oil Change.
Oil Filter.
All New Rotors.
All New Brakes.
Elbows Replaced...."I flushed my system a week before the top elbow blew....new fluid again..."
Gas Cap.

To do list

Plugs/Wires which I do have just haven't installed yet. "AC Delco"
Few minor scratches.
Stereo "some of the buttons are faded off"
Trans Fluid/Filter
Belt
Trunk "Some d-bag hit my car in the parking lot the first week I got it and left a decent dent in trunk...."

Re: My 2004 Grand Prix Problems/Maintenance List

Oh, so were posting all the things we did too? Oh then I'll post the whole thing, it's quite a bit of stuff to do to a car that was already in good shape and well maintained, my first car, and since I've only had it 6 months.(Winter months also, I have to work on it outside)
maintenancelist.jpg

And the things I still want to do:
Replace downstream o2 sensor
Plugs + Wires
Clean upholstery
Grease all window regulator guides/tracks
Flush power steering fluid
Apply undercoating/repaint areas

Re: My 2004 Grand Prix Problems/Maintenance List

Welcome to owning a WBody.

Doesn't really get better until you replace just about everything.

Re: My 2004 Grand Prix Problems/Maintenance List

Ive got a list too somewhat. But Saturday was the 1 year mark since I had my car and since then ive replaced or done; LIM gasket, coolant elbows, 5 oil changes, new battery, alternator swapped, had a ground wire replaced, plugs and wires, replaced a stuck open thermostat, sealed my onstar antennae, tranny fluid drain and replace, and brake pads all around. Things I still need to do are:

Brand new front tires as one has a slow leak
Valve cover gaskets
SC coupler and fluid
Need some suspension work done from some knocking/crunching noise
Front wheel bearing replaced
and figure out where this P0401 code is coming from.

Thats my list of issues as of now which isnt too bad.

Re: My 2004 Grand Prix Problems/Maintenance List

Not bad for a 10 year old car thankfully Wbody parts are rather inexpensive.

Re: My 2004 Grand Prix Problems/Maintenance List

Nope if all goes according to plan, like the last time since its a family dealer, its all going to be free.

Good to hear. I was going to say major of those things you can do yourself and save a bunch of money but I won't get my hands greasy when it comes to free. Lol.

Re: My 2004 Grand Prix Problems/Maintenance List

How are your aluminum elbows holding up? I need to get mine replaced soon as well as my belt.

Re: My 2004 Grand Prix Problems/Maintenance List

I assume we're talking rear main seal here?
Crank seal on front cover is easy enough to change with motor in.

Re: My 2004 Grand Prix Problems/Maintenance List

250 and you bought the new pump for them to install? you got sucker written all over your face, sorry to say that. but you just got ass rapped real good.

if it took them 3 hours they were dragging their feet too. its a 45 minute job, 1 hour tops.

Re: My 2004 Grand Prix Problems/Maintenance List

then they charged you out the ass to swap it, i understand. id be yelling rape!

you need to man up and start doing these small repairs on your own, save your dad some money, if not yourself. that could have been a free repair. p/s pump is stupid easy to change.

Re: My 2004 Grand Prix Problems/Maintenance List

Look up labor times for each job, thats where the price comes from.

Figure dealership shop rates are 105-130 an hour. Its not really rape when thats what it costs to have them do it.

Its just getting bent over compared to a smaller mom and pop shop that doesnt charge as much, and clearly we all know speed doesnt do his own work, so why care what he has to pay.
