i was looking for about a month for a good used car, and i was not looking for a regal GS or anything else really, just a good deal and something i could live with.
i wound up with a regal gs for 800, and fixed it all up little by little.
click the link in my sig, its shows how it looked when i got it to now. a cheep price and your own labor make for a good deal at the end of the day.
take any car you go to look at to a shop and have it checked out, front end engine leaks, anything found is money off. they wanted 1600 for my car, took it in, found all that was wrong, and beat the guy down to 800.

I consider myself a "trader". In 2009 I had a Saturn L200 even trade for a 84 Chevy 4x4, even traded that for a 97 GP GT (engine started going) then even traded that for 94 Chevy Z71, even traded that for 90 LX 5.0 Mustang (notch), finally traded even for my 98 GTP. Only money involved was title transfer. So with all this trading I ended up with what I wanted a GTP. So the cars and deals are out there you just have to apply some time and patience to get them. The owner of the GTP did not even post "for trade" in her add, I called her up and asked if she wanted to even trade. Now though I have put to much into this GTP to trade it away. I am driving it till the motor falls out hahaha.

Lets see I looked at all the higher priced gtps. In my price range. Then when those went bust j hit craigslist and bout my pos for chump change because it needed a new front end and had a dent in the drivers side. So to make the sale the guy threw in the fenders bumper and hood he had in his garage

Let's see... Got my '00 SE way back when used, with 88k miles on it. Got a 2nd car, a Stratus R/T 2dr that I drove for a number of years. While I drove it, I did the engine swap and everything else to my '00.
Last year, I flipped the Stratus and put the money as down payment on a '10 Malibu that I bought used with 8k miles on it. I was trying to find a GP locally then, but all I saw was a special edition that some guy was wanting around $7k for, with high mileage and you could tell it was well used. I passed on it and nothing ever popped up before I snagged the 'Bu.
Fast forward to February and a friend with a towing business has a '98 GTP with a junked title that he got in payment for a tow bill. I bought it off him for $500, only knowing it looked decent and the engine ran. If worse comes to worse, I could swap the leather interior to my '00 and have spare parts to sell or whatever. It took me a month but I ended up getting a salvage title for it. When I began working on it, it was severely abused. I now know something is bad wrong in the transmission. It drives, but there is a horrible rotation/grinding noise that makes itself known at 10mph and becomes a vibration at anything faster.
Last week I was out of town and asked coworker if he might have a transmission. He said yes, but it's not for a supercharged car and then said, "Let me make you a deal on a car..." Turns out he had a '01 Bonneville sitting around some guy had given him in payment for mechanic work. As with the GTP it has title issues I'm going to have to solve, but it's in good shape from what I saw. We did some trading and it's mine for the price of something I didn't use anymore.
So, I now have 3 Pontiacs. Looking for a specific car doesn't really get me what I want, lol. Things fall in my lap and I roll with it. I'm good at molding things to what I want anyway, so if the price is right... it's right for me.

I am one of those traders too.. Almost 2 years ago me and my wife had our first child. The vehicles we had at the time were her 2002 cavalier z24, and my 1994 Ford F-150. Well we decided that we needed a bigger "family" car. So I started looking around and some friends of my parents had a car for sale. A 1994 suburban. Plenty big enough and being 4x4 good and safe in the harsh winter months. And they only wanted 2k for it.(at the time it blue booked for just over 4k since it only had 60k miles.) So I went and looked at it, test drove it and I bought it. We kept it for a while but long story short we drive too much for work and gas prices were killing us. So I started looking to trade it off. I had always wanted a GTP and found some one with a gtp wanting a suburban. We each met up and test drove each others car and traded.... Win win.

I sold my 2000 grand Cherokee limited. The next day I test drove a turbo Volvo s80. it sucked, and so the next car I looked at that day was the gp, test drove it and drove it to the bank an hour later to buy it, and got it tagged in the same day.
So basically I went ~20 hours between the jeep and the gp haha

Why look for a GP, I'm a Regal guy.
Bumped into my first Regal by mistake. $450 and it was towed home. A fuel leak, coolant elbow replacement and off I went. Sold it for $1K right after picking up a "Ragal LS" that needed a bumper cover. $200 had the parts in the right color. Sold that for $1500 and bought two more within a couple days of each other $500 and $600. Planned to drive one of them for a while, sold those bother for $1500 soon after. Got the second Regal back for $100 after some of the kids friends "helped him out" with some paint and broken windows. Flipped it back out the door for $1200 and grabbed another that needed a motor which I happened to have sitting in the garage. Drove that for close to a year and while starting to buy up parts to build one up, I found the current car for $1400 in need of brakes, suspension and some gaskets/tune up. Aka ..all the stuff I had on the shelf.
2 years later..I'm still driving the car.

I first saw a 92 camaro 40th anniversary edition for sale at a local dealer. From the pictures online it looked mint, but when I went in person it had it's fair share of problems. A/C didn't work (replacement would be about $1200), spider cracks all over the body, etc. The brakes weren't sensitive at all.. in fact I almost crashed it trying to brake.. I knew that car wasn't for me. The next weekend I saw an 02 grand prix gt black at another dealer. I've always loved the look and style of the GPs. As soon as I looked at it and took it for a test drive, I knew it was the perfect ride for me. I went through the whole "dealer negotiation game" until they finally called me back and accepted my offer. I have no regrets with my decision.
