Old problem resurfaces

This is an ld issue that fixed itself and has now popped up again. About a year ago I was driving and car suddendely died it would crank but not start. They changed the crank position sensor even though it tested good because the RPMS dropped to 0 a few times before this happend it worked fine for about 50 miles then did the same thing, they next changed the icm, worked for two days then it happened again. Towed it to the shop he said ICM changed it, it ran for two days then stopped, towed it back to shop it ran fine for them they kept it a month put 1,200 miles on it and it ran fine they gave it back no charge. I used it for 15,000 mile no problem, last week it stopped brought to shop changed icm it ran fine, they shut it off and hour later went to start it for me it will not start, but cranks fine 1997 GT 3.8 N/A 340,000 I am the original owner and engine, tranny most major parts are original, PCMs etc

Help guys please

My brother had the same issue. Changed the Crank position sensor and didnt help. Change maf nothing. Bought a new ICM and solved his issue.

I would say ICM but it seems you have already tried that multiple times. Sorry

ICM's can be funny I went thru the original and an aftermarket in 115k then the next delco I bought went to 322 k. Not saying that's it but you never know. I would ha be some luck playing with the wires and connector to the ICM to get it to start. Which made me think it was a wiring thing and not the ICM. But it was.

Yea I thought I had it narrowed down to the light blue wire if I would move it it would start. But then quit later. Move light blue wire and it would start. ...... New delco ICM solved.

Sounds like you have a wiring gremlin. Tell them to check all the wiring to the ICM and CPS.

Two years ago I had some furry little gremlin(s) get under my hood and nibble at the ICM wiring in numerous spots making it look like a bad CPS.

Ok shop said they checked wiring and PCM. However the other day a tow truck driver told me he has the same issue with his tow truck and it was only on hot days, and I realized mine only happens in the summer time. His was the PCM it would get hot and die he took it apart and found a fried board. Here are a couple of other things mine does. Sometimes when I shut it off the drivers parking light stays on very dim (they have LED bulbs) for awhile like 30 minutes and some times with the key on and car off the lock relays go crazy, but not all the time but it stops soon as I start the car. But I am thinking about a new PCM what do you guys think and where is a god place to buy one, I was thinking ZZP. Thoughts, ideas ,help, prayers?

I had a similar issue once.

Same symptoms as a bad CPS, CEL and all pointing at it. So I replaced it. Wasn't the problem. Looking around I found a burnt wire around the bay. It was the aftermarket remote start wire that's tapped in the harness. Was shorting and giving me the same symptoms.

Replaced wire, re-routed and been all good since then.

Might be a thing to check if you have an aftermarket remote start.

Unfortunately I do not but I have been checking for a bad wire even though the shop said they did
