my car 2007 , oil full when i bought may /08 ... 1 month later normal driving amounts it required 1/4 bottle . then from end of may for next 2 months it required 1/2 bottle of oil. so looks like about 1/4 bottle per month is this normal for N/A 3800 series III. there's no smell or sign of leaking or buring oil. the weather has be humid , damp hot , cool at times at night since we bought it.

Of all the 3800s and 3.8s that I have had, they all used a little bit of oil. But never more than ½ quart in 3000 miles.
 
Same here. Seems as the oil thins out from useage, I've had to add some, but like zef said no more than a 1/2 quart every 3000 miles.
 
well not sure how to figure that out i know that since having it in MAY beginning with 31,500 klms ( not miles ), and it's now august beginning . it now has 41,000 klms . in total i have added about > 1-1/2 bottles.... all klms are city driving

i think about a month after i bought it i noticed it was down 1/4 on the dip stick, when it was suposed to be full from the dealer when we bought it . klms put on it in the first month is unknown ??

2 months later it was down about 1/2 on the dip stick.
 
You still have your warrenty right? Take it to the dealer and tell them it's keeps gettig low on oil. Make them go in and do a full check on it. It would be better to do it know than to wait until your warrenty runs out and ends up caosting a pretty penny.
 
It's part of the PCV system. All engines injest a little oil. Typical driving on mine which may only be on the weekends I don't really notice a difference...but when I got back from the power tour, it was a little over a half quart low.
 


That's what we were trying to explain, but didn't seem to satisfy. Driving my GT back and forth to work, which is only about 12 miles a day, doesn't affect it much, but take a trip back home, I have to add a little.
 
I drive mine 100 miles a day and I never have to add any. It does use a little, but never enough that I have to add. Maybe .5 quart in 3000 miles.
 
My 3.8 used a little oil until I did my gasket job. During the job I found a lot of oil pooled on the LIM. After replacing the LIM and UIM gaskets, she hasn't used oil since.

FWIW, I used to use a decent amount of oil. Problem was I had bought a Auto Zone brand of PCV valve. Put in a AC Delco PCV a few thousand miles later and slowed it tremendously.
 
i know on my GAGT 3.4L i put about 2000 to 3000 klms on it each year . it is very slow very pampered klms too. i don't think i ever need to add any oil. is it the way it is driven ??? versus the GP daily city driver as to why oil has to be added to the GP. GAGT uses full synthetic , GP regular oil .
