oil smells like gas

I am lost here guys, I was doing some major cleaning on my car yesterday, I popped the hood to check the oil because i knew its getting close to time to change it, oil is full and clean still but it smells like gas. I dont make very mny short trips, or anything like that. I also noticed that after i put my zzp pcm in, the car will not run with fuel pump resistor in. I bought a new one thinking it ws the problem but it didnt fix it, it fires and dies with the resistor plugged in, but it will run fine with it bypassed. What else could be causing me to run this rich? thanks for any suggestions

I wouldn't be overly worried about it, unless you feel the smell is very strong. You may have a leaky/stuck injector that causes it to drip a little after the car is shut off, and it could potentially make its way past the rings into the oil. How is your PCV valve? They are only like $4 and take a minute to change, may not be a bad place to start if you need one anyways.

its not an overwhelming ammount, but its strong enough to tell that its there, not to faint but not to overwhelming. Im not super concerned but with it being a fairly new motor, i dont wanna have any contaminates in the oil. Pcv valve is new 4k miles ago when motor was done, but maybe on a long shot ill replace it again considering theyre only a couple bucks

does anyone have any thoughts about this, i was thinking at work and somehow i came up with the thought that maybe its running so rich because its not reaching operating temp? It has a 160 degree thermostat in it, adn the warmest the car ever runs is maybe 180, never over the first big line. This would lead me to think the cars always running in open loop off the preset settings casuing it to dump a lot more fuel in all the time. Does this sound like it may haev something to do with it or something else?

bump up the thermostat temperature. you're not burning all of the gas because you're not letting the motor get up to temp.

also, if there is a gas smell in the oil you are pouring so much fuel into the cylinders it is flooding and bypassing the piston rings. im assuming your gas mileage sucks?

im averaging about 19.7-20 in the city which isnt horrible but i feel like it could be a lot better, i can also tell its a little slower, would the pig rich condition be a factor in that too?

Kinda sounds like ZZP may have given you a file that doesn't control the fuel pump speed properly. Which would mean they started with an NA file I think.

I never thought about that, I was planning on having a tune when i got my headers, and new s/c pulley in december. How much does a tune usually run, there probably not the same anywhere but like a ballpark price

the stock thermostat range, so about 210-220*.

performance wise you really dont get any benefit out of running the car colder. everyong just does it because it was the thing to do in 1997 when people couldnt tune their car.

got a 195 thermostat the other day, threw it in, all seems well now. oil doesnt have hardly any gas smell to it, and it runs much better than it did. filled up with 93 octane, and threw in a couple gallons of 110 with it, and runs like a raped ape compared to before. 0-60 times are down to 6.3. thanks for the help guys
