Oil pump issues?

I bought a 2001 impala, 3800. The owner said that thre is a tick/ knock due to no oil getting up around the valve train, he said the oil pump is bad. I'm just wondering if you guys think it's the same issue or something else

Any help is appreciated as alway.

Yeah, probably not an issue with the oil pump. Very unlikely.

I would hook up an oil pressure gauge to make sure. But probably more of an issue with coolant getting into the engine and spinning a bearing.
 
So it turned out it wasn't that at all, a lifter collapsed and caused a racket. There's no damage done. I'm not sure if you can buy these individually , and I know 3400 uses the roller litters. Will one from a 3.4 work?
