Oil pump going bad??? Ticky ticky

If you think that's bad, when I had trouble with my fuel pump shutting off some kid told me that the fuel pump was in the glove compartment. I laughed aloud but he was dead serious. I let it go and told him I'd check it out.
 


Just to close this Summarize and close this out. Ticky sound started, when cold once warmed up went away, got some opinions decided to try Seafoam. Put half a can in the current old oil. Drove about 50 - 80 miles, seemed it might be getting worst. Changed oil put in a 5w-30 and 1/2 can Seafoam. Next day Ticky was worst and stayed on longer, until engine almost fully warm. But it did go away so I went to work about 20 miles. That evening got in started car non ticky noise. Been about 3 days and now and no noise. YEAH. Change oil light should be coming on soon, and I will then go back to 10w 30 and no Seafoam.

I'd be interested in seeing if the ambient temperature fluctuations have anything to do with your ticking. So... the temperature of the oil at start.

I have had the same concerns. The time it was really bad it was really cold. Temps have warmed a bit of late. We have another cold front coming with lows in the upper teens Monday morning. So I can report back if I have any ticking then.

Why would you ask, and what do you think it is if ambient temp. is effecting it?
 
I'm thinking cold oil. Really cold oil. Like 35*. That stuff is thick. But aside from motor oil, the same would go for oil in a pump bearing. Are the bearings in the oil pump or water pump sealed?
 
Synthetic 0W-30 (not castrol, that is thicker, wont help) might help.

If not, try Mobil 1 0W-20.

Its not much thinner than an 0W-30.

Pennzoil Plat 0W-20 is quite thin in comparison to the mobil.

Started this morning mid 20's (F) no ticky ticky. I think the seafoam cleaned up a stuck something. YEAH.
