Oil Pan Question

Hey guys,

I brought my car into the shop today to have a couple things checked on and to get an estimate. While they were doin that I had them check to see where oil was leaking cuz I have smelled it burning. They said it was leaking from the oil pan and didnt know if it was the pan, the gaskets looked new and was still leaking, or if there was something wrong deeper in. I am gonna have them look into more when I get my strut and sway bar replaced in a couple days. Any ideas or common problems that can go wrong around that area? Just kinda wondering what is goin on in there.

Oil pans do tend to leak. As do the valve cover gaskets which can run down onto the exhaust manifolds and burn off. Other gaskets can leak as well. Hard to say which one it is, or all of them.

But I doubt it is anything internal causing the engine to leak oil.
 
it could be even be an oil line. i dont know where its leaking on your car but my car was leaking a bit of oil so i checked the lines and all i needed was a new hose clamp. 1 dollar lol.
 
I hate car's that leak. One of my pet peeves. If you think the oil pan has a good gasket and they say its leaking from the pan, ask them to check to see if the bolts are torqued correctly.
 
Oil pans, valve cover, rear engine cover gasket/rear main seal. Take your pick. Those are the most common to make an oil pan look like it's leaking.

My favorite fix for the issue is to clean things down. That's right. Sometimes it's simply built up over time and a cleaning of all that gunk shows you it's no longer leaking. Or..it shows you where the actual leak is located.
 
Thanks guys im taking it in to put new struts in and get the broken sway links fixed. Ill have them double check what it may be but I know its leaking because I can smell it.
 


If the pan is leaking enough to get it on exhaust, you will smell it.. When I had my last oil change, they didn't tighten the drain plug enough and it was leaking, and I could smell it.
