Oil leak puzzle

Now, I'm not so mechanically inclined, but there is an oil leak that behaves quite odd. It just started to happen, but it's a really bad leak. I think I lost nearly a whole quart of oil in a weekend. The car doesn't leak when running/idling while i'm sitting in the car. When I turn it off, it leaks a good bit too. Any thoughts?

Might be an engine block crack?

Buy some leak dye and add it to the oil. After you run it, it will show you where it is coming from.

The leak could be from the oil pan, valve covers, or other places. Try looking under the engine to see drips.

the leak is coming from the side with the belts. Its actually leaking on the belts a little when I look under there. I haven't taken the time to completely put it up on a jack and crawl under as i've been busy with so many non-car related things.

Where would I buy the dye?

The color of the fluid is the color of the oil, a little bit darker than when it went in but def oil. I also checked the levels and noticed it went down.

sounds like a front main seal to me but definatly look around their to see if you can find where the oils leaking from

Could be oil pan/fmc/psteering, try and spray that area down with some break kleen really good, after it drys u might see were its coming from?

thank you all, I will have time this weekend and take a look and see where it could be coming from. I'll update if I can.

Look over the oil pressure sender as well. There's no good reason for a front main to sporadically leak oil. But t a sender with it's seals etc can get pretty goofy.

Hope it's the easier to get at and change sender. :th_thumbsup-wink:

oil pan had a little hole in it, might have ran over something, or went a little too far on the sidewalk. Don't quite know how it happened, just know the problem!
