Oil leak and smoke..

I have a 99 GTP with 124xxx miles and it leaks a bit of oil.. Nothing terrible though. But i've noticed it getting worse recently and now its smells as i'm driving for the first 10 minutes or so and on short trips like to work and back, i'll get home and smoke will be coming from the bottom side of the engine.. I was told it was just the oil pan gasket leaking but it seems to be worse when sitting on an incline and the last time I was under it the whole backside of the engine had oil on it so that makes me think valve cover gaskets.. Any ideas?

your on the right track with v/c gaskets. also check the oil pressure sensor, its by the oil filter, just past it, if its leaking it leaks right out of where the plug is.

Alright. I need to change the oil this weekend anyway so i'll check that. Could the smoke just be oil burning off the underside of the engine?

when the oil pan leaks it tends to drip under the exhaust, so no smoke or smell most of the time, valve covers will leak on the exhaust manifolds and smoke and smell like like burning oil.

when the car is cool, take a paper towel folded up, then wipe under the lip of the valve cover, if its leaking the the towel will be wet with oil.

Thats what I thought. Alright well now I know what needs changed. Didn't they have a big recall on the L67 valve cover gaskets?

there is a recall, but its for the front cover only, how dumb is that? i still get the notices in the mail. toss them in the trash every time....

front one is the easy one too, the rear, you need to take a few more things off to get to it.

Wow thats stupid.. Oh well. What all needs to come off? I'm assuming the alternator of course.. That seems to have to come off for everything.

my would leak more on a incline bc the oil would pool in the mount bracket from my leaking timing cover gasket and drip out when i was on a incline.

my oil pressure sensor was also leaking. oil pan gasket will not spray oil everywhere, only oil under pressure.

my engine is dry now except a small droplet from my pan gasket now.

had to change timing cover and oil pressure sensor
