oil everywhere and small fire

so my 98 regal caught on fire due to oil blowing every where under hood luckily i was at a gas station upon noticing only small small flame no damage oil was on front top half of engine cooling fans did blow it bak but my oil cap was not correctly seated could not find were it was coming from valve cover maybe any ideas
 


you said "lucky i was at a gas station" worst spot you could be with a fire lol but glad you caught it soon
 
ya ur right a fire at gas station bad right but i have just replaced all top end gaskets on engine i put in
 
Hmm do intake gaskets shoot oil everywhere? If not torque properly and in the right sequence than possibly..

But I would bet if you looked in your wheel well and felt around it.. You'd find to sender leaking
 


How would he get oil on the front half topside of the motor if the sender was leaking?

OP- you said your oil cap wasn't correctly seated. Could have come from there I guess. Your best bet would be to clean off all the old oil residue and then take it for a drive. Then leave it running, pop the hood and look for oil or smoke from burning oil and there's your leak.
 
and keep an extinguisher in the car for now. Because only you can prevent f**king up traffic because your ride is on fire, lol..

Mike..I dunno how you come to this conclusion that torque and sequence = oil leak.

OP.. only time I've seen oil spew out from a valve cover or similar area was when a PCV was installed incorrectly on an SC motor. Not my doing..but it built up pressure, blew out a VC gasket and blew oil everywhere.
 


so upon cleaning up the oil degreasing engine i ran regal down the road found that it was my intake gasket in the front right in the middle ther was micro sized bubbles of oil coming from the intake gasket and apeares to be way over full on oil im sure il find coolant in oil but shouldnt oil turn creamy colored when mixed with coolant? but mine is not creamy colored it was normal but was over full as it appeared. so i went to auto zone and bought intake gaskets for my regal now i bought the ones that are steel i was told they were better but when i bought my felpro top end kit i thought it was the good set of gaskets well they were plastic am now in process of tearing the regal down and pros cons to the plastic or steel intake gaskets any helpfull hints to geting them to seal nice
 
dump the oil out, then transfer the oil into gallon milk jugs, so you can see whats what there, and its easy to take to the dpw to get rid of it as well.

and i'd take that gasket set back and get the metal ones.
 
Metal gaskets won't degrade from the heat like the plastics do. I've seen the plastics start to bow in under 20K miles on my own car.

Dabs of RTV in the corners of the LIM gaskets where the block meets the heads. Use a pipe sealant with teflon for the LIM bolts. Torque LIM bolts to 15ft lbs if you use metal gaskets.
 


got it all wraped up was leaking from the front center bolt all taken care of steel gaskets followed the hayes manual down to a t its running great again but having security issues every 5-10 starts sec wont start car i leave key in run pos for 5 min and then car will fire right up any idea
