oil consumption/leak

went to walmart today, which is about fifty miles from my house. on the way there the car started burning oil, I could see darker colored smoke coming out my exhaust in my rear view mirror. by the time we got to the store the oil light came on, so I checked to see how much oil was in the engine. dipstick said empty. so I bought 2 quarts and added it and drove down the street and the oil all leaked out. could be a pcv issue or a gasket could have failed. I recently put an xp cam in as well as a set of heads. I've been having issues with the pcv, but I thought I had it fixed.

thats what I'm hoping failed. I had it dropped off at the mechanics shop so I might go down there later and see.

edit for question: if its the oil sending unit, it should be pretty obvious, right?

and if its blown, you just undercoated the bottom of the car with oil. not always a bad thing lol mine was dripping wet under it rack to back bumper.

if its not that, what else could it be? I'm trying to mentally prepare myself for any contingencies. keeping in mind that I did a cam and head swap like a week ago.

Nick's car did it on the way home last weekend....with me driving behind it. It's was a smoke show and then I couldn't see anything.

Oil........oil everywhere.

only thing that will let oil fly so fast is that dumb o/p sensor. its crap. i blew 3 of em up. i put a brass plug in the hole, problem solved.

either i got super oil pressure, or the aftermarket sensors are pure crap. this is not a regal only issue clearly... Red....you ball buster lol

we put a new crank seal in when we did the cam swap

Means nothing.. Could of easily been dinged or damaged or defective...

I replaced mine to when I did my cam and guess what shortly after that sucker starting leaking

The only thing is, I doubt the crank seal would leak that much out that fast. It's not under any pressure.

it looks like the oil is coming off the harmonic balancer, going to try a new seal, this time the seal will come from GM
