Sorry this is a pet peve of mine, there was a lot of background on that case that everyone ignores....Did your friend really research it(first google result:)):

The Actual Facts about the Mcdonalds' Coffee Case

Cliffs:
Mcd's coffie was at a temp that would cause 3rd degree burns in 2 - 7 seconds,and they had 700 reported injuries, and still didn't lower the coffie's temp untill after the above lawsuit.....
The lady got less than a mil, but she was in the hospital and had to have skin grafts done, also it 3rd degree burned her "privates"....and we can't imagine how bad that hurt

the vending machines and ovens came as a direct result of lawsuits (as most of the stupid labels did) that tells me we have way too many stupid people in the world, and lawyers who make them that way
