Alright you guys i got the loose connection taken care of.... now the car runs... kinda runs well the thing idles rough at 700 rpm or so and there's gray smoke coming from the exuaust and the engine bay... and there's a smell of gasoline in the air... so whats going on now? this is a stock 02 gtp btw

what's the backstory to the loose connection, etc. any history with the car? ..rough idle..lots of smoke....smell of raw fuel... probably a misfire along the way.

the exhaust in the engine bay is the head scratcher. unless it's not exhaust but something burning off.

so basically i came home from work one day, 20 mins later im about to go somewhere and the car wouldnt start... it did start now the tach started going to 3k and down to 1k and eventually stalled... at first figured the fuel pump relay bypass would work... except its an 02 gtp :/ ... eventually the battery died tho so i replaced that, and then it just wouldn't start at all... the negative terminal was completely corroded, cleaned it out today and it started right up and started doing this... there's gray smoke coming from the engine bay and from the exhaust and idles at 700

ever heard of a flashlight ? lol
if you see the "exhaust" under the hood as soon as you fire it up cold , then it's most likely not something burning off but an exhaust leak.

what do you mean? i don't understand seeing the exhaust under the hood... headers? what about the headers?

you said there's exhaust coming from under your hood. find out where it's coming from. if it is exhaust its most likely a cracked manifold. my front manifold was cracked and i didn't know it till i took the heat shield off. if it's not exhaust something is burning. didn't you said you smell gas ?

okay now i dont see any smoke coming from the engine bay but from the rear left fender and the exhaust... also my short ram air intake is SCREAMING at idle which seems weird and also like i said it smells like gasoline but there's also nothing under the car, the gas gauge seems to be going down slowly now im under 3 gallons apparently

sounds like you need to jack the car up and look for leaks. fuel and exhaust. my fuel line rusted and broke just past the fuel filter where the line bends.

i will... when my dad gets home in the morning he's got my jack :/ I'll see before i head to class in the morning

I would NOT drive it until you find the source. I've seen injectors leak at the rail and the lines leak at the quick disconnect fittings where they attach to the rail, and even had one of the nylon lines get a pinhole in it on my Bonneville and was spraying fuel across the back of the upper intake. I found a pool of fuel on it that was just boiling off. I'm kinda surprised that it never actually lit itself up while parked.

If you suspect a fuel leak I would find it asap before it turns it into a crispy critter.

yup no way im driving it, ill bring a mechanic here to actually find and solve the problem, meanwhile I've been carless for the past 2 wks :/ i feel like im 16 again.... it's horrible getting rides from my parents everywhere but whatever, doing coilovers soon and a taking it to zzp for a turbo setup (on stock tranny :o cant wait for that to go) in the winter so it's fine, hopefully i get a mechanic to come check the car out if not there's a shop a block away from me... i can prolly drive it there fingers crossed, better i get someone who know what they're doing to look at it and take care of the situation, ill spend a little extra to get things done right

Not sure I'd even think about a turbo setup because what if **** did hit the fan, you're out all this money and now you're broke and without a car again. I think long term here, there are so many better things to spend 5-7k on.

im getting myself a beater next summer one way or the other, im an emt so i dont get paid that much but ill do full time once class gets out for the summer, I've got enough for a turbo setup w/ work it's approx $4500 w/ labor and everything on a conservative tune (stock tranny!!), i can put on the coilovers myself but will have to take it to a shop to get it corner balanced but this is the last winter this car will see hopefully if all goes well and ill have some type of cheap beater for next winter maybe like a l36 wbody or a civic/corolla etc... as for now hopefully it'll be a relatively cheap fix but a shop charged $400 for a fuel line fix for my old l67 bonneville (all though it was all rusted on the underside with it's rusty sway bar cracked in half)
