official switchback/led bulb hyperflash fix and sidemarker flash delete.

BoostJunki3

Needs A Turbo
first thing you have to do is cure you hyperflash....you can do this by going to an autoparts store and get a ep28 tridon 3 prong flasher (15$).

first locate your stock flasher, its the middle relay in the set of 3 relays you can see by removing the cover for the side hole in the dash. push it away from you to unmount it then remove the green clip safe and unclip it.

now you must disassemble the stock flasher and new flasher.

for the stock one you will need two small flat heads to stick on the sides of the panels you can twist the flat heads to pop up the circuit board (dont worry about damaging it you wont need the stock one and the case will only be used.)

this is a pic with the board popped and ready to pull out

i then placed some adhesive weather stripping in the bottom of the OE relay case to hold the new board sturdy since it will not clip in.

now lets disassemble the new relay this one is much easier, you just pop the side out and pull the board right out.

new and old

now go back to the car, plug the new relay board into the connector like so

then slide the case onto the board and clip it in.

and finally place green safety clip back and put the relay back on the mount....done, bye bye hyperflash and no hacking up the wires to place resistors in.

now for the sidemaker flash delete.....i chose to do this because there are 2 type of switchback 3157 bulbs: one flashes between amber/white, the second ones which i have, only flash amber and the white comes back on after signaling has ended. with 6k switchbacks and 194 sidemarkerbulbs i had an issue i still got the white/amber look due to the interchanging flash between the two. so i had 2 options to run an amber 194 or find a way to make the sidemarker only act as a running light and the whole purpose of getting the leds was to have all 6k lights no amber unless i was signaling so i chose to find a way to remove the sidemarker flash. this is how you do it

first remove the headlight and unclip the main harness.

next locate the blue and brown wires neighboring each other terminals g and f. in order to fix the flash you need to move the blue wire "g" to terminal f. now you can easily just cut and splice for you lazy people but i chose this method :)

i first uncliped the wire separtor first, used a small flat head to pop the male terminals out of the harness clip, you can do this by pushing it through the center hole on the metal terminal from the inside like this.

next pry up the crimps on the brown wire and slide the silicone back, then cut the blue wire and slip it through the silicone and strip the blue wire after getting it through, then crimp the silicone back down with both wire in it and make sure the stripped blue wire is sticking out so you can solder it to the metal terminal. and finally bend the small retainer pin on the connector up, you can do this by pushing up on it from the bottom and clip it back into terminal F. clip it back in and put the separator back on and clip the harness back together

you harness should look like this when your done.

heres a video of the results!:th_thumbsup-wink:

so what section do you want me to put this in? how to? or sticky it in this section?

its a good write up and ill make sure its visible.

So I did just a new flasher instead of modifying the old case and board swapping and such. I have the gen 2 switchbacks (amber only for signal indication) but the running lights will turn on for 5 seconds and then just shut off. It does this with the headlamp switch in running, headlights on, or auto on position. Amber turns work just fine, just no more running lights. They work because on first turn on they light up, then just click off after 5 seconds like I said.

Any ideas? I had no issues with the bulbs with the load equalizers so I know they work its just now with this new flasher and no load eq's it's a little off.

mine did the same thing if the car wasnt running.....but i also noticed as they got a week or so old they work with car off too now....weird maybe they need a break in period lol

Just for reference and consolidation of information on this specific topic, this will NOT work on 04+ because the BCM replaces the flasher. I found this out after buying the EP28, so I will be returning it and picking up a new filter while I'm there for my short ram intake.

Note -- this is for the hyperflash fix only:
For 04+ you need two 6 ohm resistors (load equalizers or whatever you wanna call them) which are actually about half the price of the flasher anyways. You then need to tap them to the black and light blue wires (I spent forever trying to find a 3157 wiring diagram online). Then congrats, you're done. Go make yourself a sandwich or something.

Not sure about the sidemarker flash delete because my sidemarkers don't light up at all under any circumstance. Anybody know when/how they are supposed to turn on? Lol.

Another interesting twist.....

I just swapped in the EP28 flasher and some Putco LED bulbs (non switchback). All was good until this morning, when I noticed that when the park lights are on, the signal indicators on the dash are lit up dimmly. Other than that, everything is just fine.

I'm guessing that something is back feeding? Bad bulb?

FYI.....

I put a diode on each signal wire (dark blue wire) at the front light sockets and that fixed the problem.

since 04+ is with the BCM and does not have a flasher... can the BCM get reprogrammed if brought to a dealership or somewhere? i just am hating the idea of splinting into the wires to put resistors. cause what if i want to take out the switchbacks and put in stock ambers back in?
