I have a 2002 gt and the odometer stopped just before 190,000..... i took out the unit and it looks to me it might have been tampered with before i purchased the car is there any way to get it spinning again.. when i drive i can hear it ticking like it wants to turn but it doesnt. The trip meter isn't working either
any advise will help thanks

You can disassemble your current one and see if something is broken inside, which it sounds like ther is, then just replace it with a junk yard part... But replacing the whole cluster would be easier.

I was thinking one of the gears on the odometer went bad or broke when the person before me rolled it back... if they did...are the hard to dismantel do you know?

Should be fairly simple. The clear front clips off, then a screwdriver should get you the rest of the way to where you need to be.

Alright sounds good... i might as well try since the other route is a new one anyway what do i got to lose.. ill let ya know how it goes

I would just replace cluster..... Did you get screwed on the car or something? Or it stopped working on you?

it worked for a little bit but looking at the odometer now it looked like someone tried to roll it back half ass with a screw driver on the numbers
i got it off now and the gears look fine so idk what it is im probably just gonna get a new cluster

I know this may be a long shot, but reassemble everything and try pressing the trip reset a few times while driving. I reset my trip odo once while moving and got the same result. Mileage didn't change and I heard a clicking sound as if it was trying. Pressed the reset again and the odo started moving again like it should and hasn't done it again since.

It's free to try so it couldn't hurt.
