Odd question

for our cars, 20k seems like a lot since a bunch of people break them way before then.

Really? :th_scratchhead: Wow, I must be doing something wrong. I got one GP with 140K+ and the other is nearing 170k+.

If people are only getting 20k out of there motors they either need to build the damn thing right the first time or not work on motors at all period.

i was talking about the timing chain (double rollers). if it doesnt break in the first few thousand miles then i dont think youll have a problem at all.

I plan on building a wicked N/A 3.8, going to build it like I did my old iron, build it withstand a 300 full shot.

Now are the mighty rwd 3.8's internals compatible???

Got pics of this cog drive? id be worried about throwing that damn belt and cutting off the front end, thats what made me think about the gear drives.

i love people that want to build fast N/A cars. just why? you can make an FI go so much faster for so much cheaper.

no, the RWD 3800s are not the same unless youre talking about the seriesII camaro/firebird, but that is the same motor as ours so it really doesnt matter. the internals of the old 231 that was in the GN and t-type is completely different.

I donno, I recently read a thread over at ClubGP about a guy breaking a JP at 30K or 40K. If I were you, i'd check it out to be safe. Thats just me though. With all the problems there have been lately with timing sets, its not worth the risk. I wish someone would make something that worked correctly out of the box. Seems like all the double rollers for our motors have there issues...

You're right, FI can be easier and just as fun. But at the same time, a big cammed, headed, stalled, geared, high comp, stroker motor is a nice feeling to drive on the street. Granted at that stage, its most likely terrible on gas all the time. At least with an FI car you can turn down the boost for a mild street setup.

i will check it when i spin a bearing on the block i have now or when i decide to bite the bullet and just change blocks like i want to. high compression here i come. :D

interesting, I can't wait to see the outcome on this. So this would be a bad idea on the S/C 3.8's?
If they're extremely loud I would want that, haha!

Faster for cheaper? yes but if you put your money into the FI and not the engine, it will only be fast for a short time then it will be broken. Ive ran em both, if you want a FAST FI car and im not talking mear 12's, you have to dump the NA build money into the engine THEN dump the money into the FI system.

There arent many GM motors that can retain stock internals and handle the pressure of FI.

**** even without boost GM's are notorious for grenading.

I remember putting a bigger carb on once and 3 days later it blew and well it was the carb that blew but sent all sorts of crap into the motor and **** embedded into the underside of my hood. very similar yet less destructive then an N2O backfire.

Bio, where in wisco are you? im up there ALOT for fish and fur sometimes feathers too.

im in the milwaukee area. hunting isnt my thing, though. i get bored VERY easily and would rather have a fenced in area where all i have to do is aim well. :p

Mainly phesants but mostly waterfowl

Where I hunt is about 3 west of you and an hour north of there, I go out west to go north lol.

I plan on being up that way a few times this year yet.

Hows the cheese this year?

Yes when I go to cheeseland I put my vinyl cling piss on packers in the back window. Its fun to get a rise out of em.

Huh? These engines really don't have to be "built" to handle boost. IIRC ZZP went 9's on a stock GT bottom end. How fast are you planning on going?

how long for though? and by stock are you defining it as 100% showroom stock bottom end? or a stock spec bottom end?

My buddy used to hold the world supra record for most hp on stock internals, then it blew.
Im sure youve heard of him too, it aint marco thats for sure.

yep. 100% stock bottom end. no one really builds these bottoms ends up because they handle everything so well.

hmmmm... i never realized that

PM me what kind of firearms you have Whitedevil.... the other hunters got angry at me cuz I was hunting deer with my AR-15.... my dad was one of them calling me an idiot... whaever, I wanted to do something non traditional... love my remmy.. but ar-15 was badass
