OBD2 Scanner wont connect to ECU. . .

Hey everyone...I just bought a used 2006 Grand Prix GT...got it for a good price, had the engine light on...Took it up to Auto Zone to have them scan it for me and they couldnt get it to connect to the ecu, they tried both scanners, one with batteries and one powered by the car...both did the same thing, took it to another store and had the same problem. I did a few quick searches and came up with maybe a blown fuse, but every fuse looks good...both of the 12v plugs in the center console are working... Anyone have some ideas where to look next?
