• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

O2 readings

I got my HPTuners in yesterday and started messing around with the VCM scanner. I have a little over 4* of KR at wot up near 6000rpm. :th_shakinghead2: That didn't shock me but I was surprised by what my O2 sensor was reading. The rear one is nice and stable but the front one is bouncing between 0 and 700-900. Is that normal to bounce around like that? I bought new ones to put in with my headers and am curious about I should look for as normal. Thanks.

its normal to bounce like that. at WOT it should be relatively static, but it wont be completely. just use the o2 reading as a reference because one car could be lean at 900 mV while another car could be rich there. it will also change when you switch o2 sensors.

I only plan on tuning this thing once. I planned my setup and am doing it all in the next couple months. I'm not going crazy with the setup since it is my DD so I'll just take my time, get it tuned right and probably sell the HPTuners after that to try and recoup some of the investment. I would definitely get the wideband if I was going to keep modding it or was going more extreme with it, but I don't see that happening.

Wait your doing only one tune and you bought the tuner?

Options for tuning:
1) Find someone reasonably local that has a tuner and knows how to tune
2) Find a shop that is reasonably local and can tune
3) Buy a tuner and learn how to do it myself
I have read a few posts of people looking for #1 in this area and could not find anyone. I found a shop in CT that tunes with HPTuners, but they were something like $300-$400/hour and iirc, they wanted you to buy the credits too. They did not mention being familiar with GP's either. Overall cost would have been pretty high. That left only option #3, so I bought it. I'll get my car dialed in and then sell it. Iirc, HPTuners with 6 credits left will sell for over $300 so the cost to tune is only $200. Does my decision make sense now?

Thank you 01GTP and Reptile for both bringing up the wideband. Based on my lack of knowledge, I didn't see the benefit of tuning with a wideband on a fairly mild build. After your comments, I did some reading and now I understand why you recommend this. This is something I will definitely be looking into now. Is there a wideband that you recommend?

To Bio: If my car is tuned properly, and I don't plan on modding any further, what would I use the tuner for in the future?

I'm always open to learning more and really appreciate the feedback from you guys. :th_thumbsup-wink:

Well, one benefit to having a tuner now, is that when the weather changes, so will the behavior of the car. You'll be able to tweak it for winter etc.

depending on where you live a summer tune and a winter tune would be a very good idea.

Hell, some people swap pulley's as well.
