• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Here is my problem. I have a 94 Grand Prix. It's dosen't start as if it needs a jump or cuts off while running, prior to it cutting off, the interior lights will get dim and the needles will go haywire, the car would go " putt putt". After sitting for 2 to 5 minutes it would start.

Two weeks ago I bought my 97 Grand Prix GT, which also cuts off while driving down the road. Unfortunately I need to become more motor and parts savvy before I can attempt to help you out. I will be taking mine into the shop soon.

to throw some ideas out there to get you started...

I would recommend checking the battery ground (off the negative/black wire) to the chassis. Perhaps your alternator is dying out. The intake air filter could be clogged or something may be stuck to the mass airflow sensor. The fuel filter could be clogged. The fuel pump could be dying. The catalytic convertor could be clogged. Your spark plug wires could be loose or worn out, and spark plugs may need a change.

Please let us know about mileage, any recent maintenance, breakages, replacements, etc.

id say its probably the alternator. will it start if you jump it? also whats the voltage at when you turn the key? when its running? (the gauge with the battery on it if you have one)it should be at 12 with the ignition on and around 14-16 depending on your alternator when running
