• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Now you Have me worried

Bought my 01 GTP coupe a few weeks ago and I am going down the "Where to start" list.
I thought I was all ready to do the transmission service and now I am freaked out. Based on the color the transmission oil needs to be changed. Should I be concerned that the transmission could act up based on the other things written on the forums. Any way to off set the chance of change the transmission currently feels really smooth.

Pan drop, install Trans-Go shift kit, filter replacement and fill it back up. The shift kit will help by eliminating clutch slippage thus creating heat and burning them and the fluid up. I would NOT take it somewhere and have it flushed. Then you are asking for trouble.

just how high are the miles.

most of the time if the trans is working fine a pan drop and filter change is ok. add a shift kit while your in there.

its when its acting up and the fluid looks/smells bad you really need to worry. a fluid change never fixes a ailing tranny. regardless of the fluid color.

Depending on the mileage of the trans you could put some Lucas in it while you are changing out the fluid. That stuff helped my bad trans last another 30k miles.

Miles are 187XXX, I know these guys have at least another 100k in them when we take care of them properly. What can I say I have a type.
Is there a good Youtube for adding the shift kit? I am a beginner at best when it comes to this stuff. 99% of all garages in my neck of the woods are OEM only.

I literally just did this last weekend. Not difficult at all. Follow the write-up. Take it one step at a time, and make sure you have everything you need before you touch a wrench. This is an excellent beginner project.

From what I've read, if your trans was fine before pan drop, it will be fine after. If you had problems before, a pan drop will likely not fix it, and could make it worse.

The shift kit will help by eliminating clutch slippage thus creating heat and burning them and the fluid up.

Just to clarify, clutch slippage creates excessive heat and wear - a shift kit reduces slippage and wear.

You could also consider a transmission cooler down the road. There are how-to's floating around for that on this site and the internet.
