• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Not sure what to do...electrical?

While I'm a n00b on here, I have a feeling this is not a question suitable for that section of this forum....

I've been all over the place trying to diagnose the potential source of....several problems...for a while now. I'll try to keep lay out as many facts as I can so that someone smarter than me can make their own opinions and hopefully suggest something i haven't tried up to this point.

98 GTP, Supercharged V6, ~150k miles

  • Replaced A/C system this fall - Accumulator/Condenser/Compressor
  • Symptom 1 - upon fixing A/C, HUD display of Exterior Temperature shows a constant 50 degrees EXT, and the fan indicator (upper fans, lower, defrost) glitches for the first 30 seconds the car has been turned on.
  • Symptom 2 - Shortly thereafter, the Performance Shift light no longer illuminates when performance shift button is clicked on/off. Car still responds correctly in both modes, but indicator light no longer illuminates
  • Throttle control sensor blows - replaced.
  • Symptom 3 - "Boost" indicator no longer illuminates when the supercharger is engaged. Supercharger still kicks into action for me, but nothing on the gauge.
  • Mass Airflow sensor blows - replaced.
  • Mass Airflow sensor blows - less than 1 week later - replaced again.
  • When Mass Airflow sensor blows, or check engine light kicks on, the boost meter starts responding for a few moments, glitches, responds correctly, then freezes.... In short it appears to be working in regards to receiving signals, they just appears to only get through SOMETIMES and only for a short while.

Could be unrelated or related, but since I've had this car....6+ years in the making now, I sporadically get a "cricket"-like zzzzzzzzzzzziiiiip electrical blip from what sounds like between my shifter and the radio console. I really only remember it from winter time, and possibly related to when I use the heated seat controls. I perhaps looking back, it could be an electrical short or arc'ing?

I'm at a loss as what's going on. Short of buying parts to swap out here and there, tracing each wire from point A to point B, I don't know what to do. This is my primary car and I can't afford to keep taking days off of work to chase ghost problems. ANY ideas that can be thrown out would be much appreciated.

Have you checked fuses, alternator, make sure your ground connections are set correctly(there is a black ground wire that goes in around the ICU bracket it is a ground wire , typically it could be the problem ) . It seems that you have a short somewhere or a wire is touching something it shoudlnt.

Alternator is good, will check fuses today. Based on its activity, I was guessing the same thing as what you said above...a short. I'll check around the ICU bracket to see if there is any possible culprits. My problem, was that I just didn't know where to START in tracing wires. Thanks for the suggestion!

Vehicle has never been submerged. I've been owner for many years and I knew the only previous owner personally. That being said, is there a water damage problem that could have occurred due to incorrect drainage or clogs? I haven't noticed any musty smells or anything that would indicate that this would have happened, I just don't want to rule out possibilities. I'm hoping to take an extended look under the hood this weekend as this week is extremely busy for me :(
