Normal Running Temperature

I'm curious to know the normal running temperature for a 2000 GTP. On the gauge, it will barely make it past 80 C (about 185 F), even if I have been driving for an hour or more. I've only notice it increase when the engine was warm and I was idling for 5 mins or so.

My Low Coolant light is on but there is plenty of fluid in the rad and reservoir and the test on the mixture temperature is fine. The warning light use to go off after about 5 mins of running (once the engine was warm it wouldn't come on) but now it is on all the time. Another question, can having too much fluid in the reservoir be a bad thing?

Any thoughts?

mine never goes more than a quarter of the way up the gauge, like 80-85 degrees. Thats just how GPs are i think, cause every one ive been in is the same. As for the coolant light, your sensor is probably just dirty, take it off and clean it up see if that helps.
 
mine used to run at around 200-210 in summer little cooler in winter

ur thermostat could be a 185 someone else put in how long have you had the car

1/4 up the gauge is in the 180-190* area. the gauge pretty much starts at 160*.

with a 180* thermostat youll run in the 190-195* area. with a 195* thermostat youll run in the 205-210* area.
 


btw, the low coolant sensor is crap. my light n the dash would flicker off and on, even when it was full of coolant, so i replaced the sensor and still did it with the new 1. i ended up just removing the light out of the cluster.

im from canada so mines in degrees celcius, same as the op, so i figured it would be easier if i explained it that way instead of in degrees fairenheit
 
I think you just need to understand how inaccurate the dash gauge is. If I read my temp with a scanner, it reads right where it should around 190-195°F (with 195° stat). But the dash gauge reads 160-170°. Nothing to worry about or anything you can fix. Just something to understand and live with.
