• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Noob Q...

New to forced induction here. I see around the site and from trying to read up on my car that it seems GM gave us a fun little Ubend in the exhaust to deal with. My question is this. Besides a U... what does this look like? anyone have a photo? Also, if I take it to an exhaust shop (haven't welded exhaust before and should do experimenting later) how much SHOULD it cost to have them deal with it. I realize I can go in and get a quote... but I'm curious as to what it SHOULD be not what they're gonna charge some dumb kid.

Furthemore i've heard wispers that a Ubend delete ( more so headers) will cause a drop in boost? Now... I get that the actual pressure goes down because of the loss in backpressure, but... isn't their technically still MORE air flowing through? at a lower pressure.... Am I an idiot (don't answer that). IF this is an issue that will drop my boost and HP (i'm coming from a duratech taurus so the HP it much appreciated.) if swapping to a SLIGHTLY smaller pulley an option? I'm not looking for huge gains, and I did read up on KR, i just don't want to LOSE any horsies.

Great forum guys, very helpful.

I'm definitely no expert but I have had a couple wbodys in my day and removing the u bend has always made the car feel a lot better, and it's proven over and over to be a horsepower gain.

I wish it was a 04+ ;)

My car shares my birth year, good ole 98 baby. There's a good old timey exhuast shop in town. The guy's known for refusing to do work that will make a car obnoxious, so i'm hoping he'll understand why I want the Ubend out, cause it will change the exhaust note just a bit I assume?

Boost is a measure of restriction, plain and simple. The less restriction, the less boost will be made but that does not mean a drop in horsepower. Because the restriction becomes less it is flowing better and is more efficient.

Just buy a 3in downpipe if you want the u-bend gone, you'll be far better off.
